TFL Busy?

Post by Countdown »

I seem to get the following error when visiting TFL. It happens kind of often now. Am I the only one?
INSERT INTO `outtage_log` (`ip`,`time`) VALUES (INET_ATON('69.218.241.143'), 'October 10, 2010, 6:36 pm')

Yes, luckily it only lasts a few minutes each time, I've been working on solving the issue...I can now see exactly when the site does that.

It's a combination of server traffic and very big database tables.

It's not an easy fix, without altering some of the functionality of the site, but I am hacking away at it!

There was just an outage, but only 1 all day, pretty good improvement.

Just now I worked with TT to remove nearly 1/3 of dead space from one of the biggest tables, and, I just learned about indexing. After making these changes, queries are running at 1.5 milliseconds as opposed to 7.5 milliseconds prior to these changes. Huge improvement, but still crossing fingers!
