SunStorms artwork to order
Whilst I await the end of the month to afford some new painting materials and tools for customising TFs, I decided to put brush to canvas in the meantime and get my colour mixing up to practice. Thought it might be fun to post my first TF painting as a work in progress - so here it is so far;
I'm still very much in sketching stage for this Sunstorm, but will keep taking pics as I gradually complete him....

it's a 12" square canvas - oh, and thanks for the kind comments guys. It's kinda nice to see I can still draw and paint after not doing it since I left college(!)
Before I started this Sunstorm, I did a couple of Care Bears pics for Mrs S for practice and was very surprised how well they turned out. I still feel a little out of practice though

its looking good, Sunstorm.
My only... query... is that the wings don't look right. They should be symetrically 'sprouting' from his back (shouldn't they?). I think the one of the right (his left wing) looks ok, but the other one probably needs to 'rotate' to the left a few degrees, so it follows the line of his back. As it is, it looks like the wing on the right is attached to his back while the wing on the left is attached to his arm. They should probably both be attached at the same spots.

yeah, I see what you mean rocktimus..... I've adjusted those wing lines many times already and reckon when I apply the paint, I'll end up shifting them again. I also want to straighten the right side (Sunstorm's left) null-ray, is it is off by a couple of mm or so at the part that re-appears below his arm...
EDIT;
done some re-sketching and rubbing-out;

OK - I sorted the null-ray...... I figured out what was making it look weird. Not only was it a mm or so off line, bit I'd drawn it in the wrong perspective, making it look like it bent back towards you behind his arm. The cylinder shape looked like it was disappearing into the background above the arm, but below, it was coming back out. All a case of change the direction of the curves on the barrel shape and then shifting it a mm or two. Looks far better now;
Added a few more areas of black too with a pencil, then I'll paint over it and re-establish any stark black lines with a thin marker.
Stage 2 - the paint - to begin this week!
