GRIMLOCK’S REVENGE
A shuttle was flying through space; its sole occupant was slumped back in his seat, his optics glowing dimly. Suddenly the optics flashed a blood red colour and then began to glow a crimson red. The pilot stood up and made his way to the energon store where he finds only six energon cubes left, the life giving fuel of the transformers and he is down to the last six cubes. With a heavy sigh he picks one up and consumes it, knowing that his days could well be numbered if he can’t find another energon source.
The pilot goes back to the forward seat and he sits with his chin resting in his hands, how did it go so badly wrong for the Autobots?, the lone transformer thinks, was it all down to the death of the great Optimus Prime at the hands of Megatron?, the pilot cant forget that image of Megatron standing over Optimus Prime, and Prime himself about to fight back when Megatron had pulled the trigger, and Primes lifeless body had fallen to the ground.
The effect of Primes death had been almost instant among the remaining Autobots, Ultra Magnus had taken command and had tried to gather the Autobots into a line to defend Autobot city. He had failed. Ultra Magnus was taken out by a shot from Megatrons fusion cannon that had torn into his chest cavity. The remaining Autobots were soon decimated by the Decepticon forces, and Springer had ordered the evacuation of Autobot city, but Soundwaves cassettes, Rumble and Frenzy, had destroyed the shuttles, so Springer had ordered them to retreat into the forest that surrounded the city. It proved to be a fatal mistake. Bruticus and Menasor were laying in wait, having destroyed Omega Supreme and Defensor and blown up the volcano headquarters, they had been waiting for the Autobots.
He had ordered his own group of commandos, the group known as the Dinobots, to fight on. One by one they fell, one by one he dragged their bodies to the remains of Autobot city and placed them in stasis pods and then launched the pods into deep space. Until finally there was only Springer, Kup, Hot-rod, Arcee and himself left standing. Springer ordered them to split up and save themselves; he had looked into Springers optics and seen the one thing that he never thought he would. Fear.
He and Kup had run one way with Springer, Hot-rod, and Arcee heading in the opposite direction. The plan had been to meet up around 200 miles due east of the city, he and Kup had arrived and had waited for the others, but they had not arrived, so Kup had decided that they should search for them. The two Autobots doubled back the way they came and then picked up the trail, they had not gone half a mile when they found the remains of Springer, shot to pieces. They had continued on and found the body of Hot-rod, a gaping hole in the side of his head. The two followed the trail and eventually came upon Megatron and Bruticus. Bruticus was holding Arcee and Megatron was questioning her to the whereabouts of the other two Autobots.
“I will never betray my friends Megatron “, Arcee had said. He tried to stop Kup, but he revealed himself to Megatron to try and save Arcee, a fatal mistake, Megatron had just turned and blown Kup’s head off his shoulders, then his attention went back to Arcee.
He had been forced to watch as Megatron gave Bruticus the order to terminate; he had heard Arcee begging for her life, and then listened to her screams as Bruticus had torn her limb from limb. What of him, here he was, one of the most powerful Autobots ever created and he was forced to hide. Every part of him wanted to transform into his powerful Tyrannosaurus Rex mode and tear Megatron to pieces.
But he knew very well that he would be terminated before he even got close. So he had waited until the Decepticons had left the vicinity and then he had stood and made his way to the fallen Arcee.
He had picked up her head that still had part of one shoulder attached, amazingly she was still functioning. “Never give up Grimlock “, she had whispered to him, “don’t let the Decepticons win, don’t let us all die in vain “, and with that her soft blue optics faded out. “ Don’t worry Arcee “, he had said “me will avenge you, me swear it. “

Yes, it had all started with the death of Optimus Prime, and Grimlock knows that he could well be the last Autobot in existence. How can one lone Autobot stand against the Decepticon army? It would be suicide to attempt such a thing, but Grimlock is an Autobot of his word, he swore to Arcee that he would avenge her. If that means his own death, then so be it.
However, Grimlock had no intention of getting himself killed in a futile attempt to kill Megatron, that is why he let the Decepticons return to Cybertron victorious and then he had salvaged the front part of one of the Autobot shuttles and gathered as much energon as he could. Then he had taken off in search of the four Autobots who he knew would help him without question. Sludge, Snarl, Slag and Swoop, or as they were more commonly known … The Dinobots.
For many solar cycles he had followed traces, stopped on planets and asked the inhabitants if they had seen a stasis pod crash land on their world. So far, nothing. He was now following a small lead given to him by the bounty hunter Death’s Head, for which Grimlock had to pay a substantial amount of Shanix.
Death’s Head had told him that a stasis pod had crashed on a jungle planet in the Orionis system, and the Decepticons had sent the Seeker known as Thrust to investigate. He had allowed himself a half smile… There was a chance that he could lessen the Decepticon army by one, and one killed now is one less to worry about later.
As he approached the planet he had a sense of foreboding. What if Thrust had already found the pod and taken it from the planet? No, he must dismiss all thoughts like that, he must remain positive, even though his situation seemed hopeless.
As he approached the planet, he looked for somewhere to land, but the jungle is too thick. He sets the shuttle to return to orbit until he sends a signal, then he leaps from the shuttle onto the planets surface. Once the shuttle has left, he looks around him, and sees that this is a tropical jungle world and the jungle is extremely dense. He takes out his Energo sword and begins to cut his way through the thick jungle, following his sensors that have now locked on to the stasis pod.
As he makes his way through the wet jungle, he hears the sound of running water and as he cuts a tree down he emerges into a small clearing. He looks around and he sees a waterfall at one end with a stream running through the centre of the clearing. He sees a group of tigers by the stream, he looks up and sees a parrot flying towards him. He puts out a hand and the parrot lands on it and chirps at him, before flying away again. “This what humans call paradise?“ he wonders. He walks to the grassy edge of the stream and looks at his own reflection in the crystal clear water. He then crosses the stream and continues on his way through the thick jungle.
Eventually he comes into an unnatural clearing and at one end he sees what he is looking for, the stasis pod. But he becomes aware of something else: he can hear the footfalls of another transformer. He slowly raises his sword and backs off into the edge of the jungle. As he watches, the trees at the other side of the clearing get blasted out of the ground and the force of the blast turns them into firewood. Then silence descends on the clearing once again, until the footfalls can be heard once more. Then he sees the source of the footfalls. It is Thrust. Thrust looks at the pod then he raises his left arm and speaks into his communicator. He can’t hear what Thrust says as a bird squawks overhead. Then a silence falls and he hears that hated voice of Megatron come over Thrusts communicator. “Destroy it,“ is what he hears. Thrust then picks up the pod and throws it into a mudhole where it begins to slowly sink. He looks at Thrust and at the slowly sinking pod. No, not this time, he has had enough of hiding, he stands up straight and walks into the clearing.
“THRUST! “ he shouts. He sees Thrust spin around to face him with a shocked look on his face. “YOU HAVE CHOICE, YOU LEAVE NOW OR YOU DIE.“ He brings his sword up and points it at Thrust “ WHAT YOUR CHOICE ?”

Thrust looks back at him and smirks. “ Come and get it Dinobot. “ Thrust takes aim and fires his arm weapon directly at him, he rolls to the side and as Thrust continues to fire on him, he finds himself having to dodge multiple blasts. “ This need to end quick “, he thinks to himself. He picks up a stone and throws it at Thrust, hitting his arm weapon and allowing him to get closer to Thrust. He doesn’t waste any time, he launches himself at Thrust colliding with him and causing both to fall to the ground. He feels Thrust punch the side of his head and he falls to one side, loosing his sword in the process. He turns over and freezes, he is looking down the barrel of Thrusts arm weapon. “ This brings back memories Dinobot, I have had this pleasure on earth with the young Autobot Hot-rod. “ He hears Thrust mention his friend Hot-rod and how he must have executed him. A fury wells up within him, his optics blaze red then, with no warning, he again launches himself at Thrust, but this time he lands on top of Thrust and he beats Thrusts head hard against the ground with one hand while he repeatedly punches Thrusts chest with the other, until Thrust isn’t moving.
He gets off Thrust and looks at the barely conscious Seeker, but once again the fury within him boils over. He changes into his Tyrannosaurus Rex mode and puts his foot on Thrusts chest. “ Me on earth too that day, me see what you did, now it your turn to die in pain. Me send you back to Megatron “ He grips Thrusts left arm between his razor sharp dinosaur teeth and rips the arm from the shoulder. “ Piece. “ He grips the other arm with his teeth and tears that from the shoulder too. “ By piece. “ Then he grips thrusts left leg and tears that from the body. “ By piece. “ He then grips the other leg and rips that free too. “ By piece. “ He then grips thrusts head in those now oil stained teeth and he rips the head from the shoulders. He drops the head on the ground and lets loose a roar that shakes the very trees around him.
As he comes out of the fury that had gripped him, he remembers the pod, he turns quickly to see that only a small part of the pod is now showing. Quickly he leans over the mud hole and grabs a handle on the pod with his teeth. He pulls as hard as he can pull and slowly but surely the pod comes out of the mud hole and on to solid ground. He looks through the glass plated front and sees the form of Slag. He puts his dinosaur hand on the glass. “ You safe now Slag. “
He transforms back into robot mode and signals the shuttle which appears from out of the clouded sky and hovers above. Once he has got the pod aboard he looks around at the pieces of Thrust. He picks up Thrusts head and looks into the dark optics, the oil still running from the severed lines at the neck. He begins to feel a new feeling at the sight of the shredded Decepticon.
Pleasure.
“ No “, he thinks, “ me not Decepticon, me Autobot. Had to kill him or he kill me, not right to feel happy “. He drops the head on the ground and gets aboard the shuttle himself. He sets a course for an asteroid belt that is close by and the shuttle leaves the jungle planet behind. He opens the pod and gets Slag out and puts him in the shuttles repair bay, he then jettisons the pod into space.

After many months of on and off writing. I have got it into my head to finish this story ...
here is part 4
Once safely hidden on a barren asteroid deep inside the asteroid belt, Grimlock ponders his next move. He has Slag, but he is no medic and his energon supply is running low.
With a heavy fuel pump, he realises that the only place he can go is back to where his nightmare came true, back to the one place that he never wanted to see again. To where so many of his Autobot brothers had fallen.
Autobot City, Earth.
Grimlock unhappily sets a course for the wrecked city, hoping that there was still the stocks of energon there.
Eventually, he sees the green and blue planet on the viewscreen and lets out a heavy sigh, deciding to land in the forest that surrounded the destroyed city, in case of any Decepticons. Walking towards the city, Grimlock sees the lifeless bodies of fallen Autobots strewn across the landscape. He tries to ignore it, the pain of those memories, the sight of his fallen brothers, the sounds that he heard here during the Autobots last stand. They are burned into his memory. Eventually he stands in the shadow of the now silent city, looking up at the once majestic walls that are now blasted and scorched from two earth days of battle. He remembers when the sight of these walls was welcoming, now he feels threatened by this place. Climbing up the wall and into Autobot city, Grimlock stands and looks around the seemingly deserted city. Then he hears a loud roar of engines, quickly getting under some cover, he looks to the sky. Astrotrain. So, the Decepticons still have a presence here thinks Grimlock. He wonders which Decepticons are here and, more importantly, how many are here. Changing to Dinosaur mode, Grimlock carefully makes his way inside the city. He makes his way through the long, dark corridors towards the energon stores. Once there, he freezes in his tracks. He hears two voices talking. One is complaining to the other. Peeking around the corner, he sees two Decepticons. Frenzy and Skywarp. “This needs to be done quietly” he thinks to himself “Not want them alerting entire con army”. Grimlock picks up a chunk of metal off the floor and throws it at Frenzy. It bounces off Frenzys shoulder. He sees the smaller Decepticon turn and hears him yell out asking who is there. Not replying, Grimlock backs around the corner and waits.
He hears the two Decepticons talk, then he hears small footsteps heading towars him. Grimlocks razor sharp teeth curl into an almost evil smile as Frenzy rounds the corner. Grimlock stoops very fast and opens his mouth and bites Frenzy in half across the waist. The little Decepticon does not even have time to cry out before he is offline. Grimlock begins to feel the same rage building that overcame him on the jungle planet. “Me must resist rage, must keep in control”. Grimlock picks up the top half of Frenzy and rips the head from the shoulders. Then he tosses the head around the corner at Skywarp. He hears Skywarp yell to come out. Never one to back away from a fight, Grimlock walks around the corner. He sees the horror sweep across Skywaps face as Skywarp realises who he is. Curling his teeth into an evil smile Grimlock stands his ground. “Whats it to be con? You fight me or you runaway. Simple choice”.
Skywarp flees outside with Grimlock close behind. Grimlock sees Skywarp transform to jet mode and take off. Then the ground around grimlock is torn up by firepower. “Youre weak Grimlock and you are the last of your kind, merely a small annoyance “.
Grimlock feels the rage overpower him. With explosions all around him Grimlock jumps and transforms as Skywarp swoops low and grabs onto skywarps wing. “ ME SHOW YOU HOW SMALL ANNOYANCE GET RID OF BIG ANNOYANCE CON”. Grimlock gets his energo sword out and plunges it into the top of Skywarp. He hears Skywarp let out a scream of pain and he feels them now descending very fast. Jumping off Skywarp, Grimlock lands hard feeling his arm twist under him. He sees Skywarp transform and land a lot harder. Standing up, Grimlock goes to where Skywarp landed. Finding the Decepticon still online, but very badly damaged. Grimlock stands over him. “Have mercy Grimlock.” He hears the Decepticons plea for mercy. Grimlock grips Skywarp around the neck and hauls him upright. “What mercy you show to Autobots? Me about to show you that same mercy”. He sees Skywarps face drop. “But you’re an Autobot, you have a code that says you don’t kill” Grimlock tightens his grip. “ Me lost book that has code in” Grimlock slams the Decepticon to the ground. Then he takes out his sword and rams it straight through Skywarps mid section. He hears the scream of pain as he withdraws his sword. “You get to die slowly con”. Grimlock again rams his sword into skywarps mid section and hears another scream of pain. This time Grimlock starts to move his sword around like he was mixing a pot of paint. He sees Skywarp coughing up oil and energon. Then Grimlock rips his sword straight up, slicing the top half of Skywarp in two.
Grimlock turns away from the lifeless body and starts to walk away. He had enjoyed making the Decepticon suffer. NO, he should not enjoy it. It was nescasary for the Decepticon to die, but was it nescasary for him to inflict so much pain? He is an Autobot, he should stick to the Autobot code. Why hadn’t he? What is this rage that keeps overcoming him?

Grimlock feels the rage overpower him. With explosions all around him Grimlock jumps and transforms as Skywarp swoops low and grabs onto skywarps wing. “ ME SHOW YOU HOW SMALL ANNOYANCE GET RID OF BIG ANNOYANCE CON”. Grimlock gets his energo sword out and plunges it into the top of Skywarp. He hears Skywarp let out a scream of pain and he feels them now descending very fast. Jumping off Skywarp, Grimlock lands hard feeling his arm twist under him. He sees Skywarp transform and land a lot harder. Standing up, Grimlock goes to where Skywarp landed. Finding the Decepticon still online, but very badly damaged. Grimlock stands over him. “Have mercy Grimlock.” He hears the Decepticons plea for mercy. Grimlock grips Skywarp around the neck and hauls him upright. “What mercy you show to Autobots? Me about to show you that same mercy”. He sees Skywarps face drop. “But you’re an Autobot, you have a code that says you don’t kill” Grimlock tightens his grip. “ Me lost book that has code in” Grimlock slams the Decepticon to the ground. Then he takes out his sword and rams it straight through Skywarps mid section. He hears the scream of pain as he withdraws his sword. “You get to die slowly con”. Grimlock again rams his sword into skywarps mid section and hears another scream of pain. This time Grimlock starts to move his sword around like he was mixing a pot of paint. He sees Skywarp coughing up oil and energon. Then Grimlock rips his sword straight up, slicing the top half of Skywarp in two.
Grimlock turns away from the lifeless body and starts to walk away. He had enjoyed making the Decepticon suffer. NO, he should not enjoy it. It was nescasary for the Decepticon to die, but was it nescasary for him to inflict so much pain? He is an Autobot, he should stick to the Autobot code. Why hadn’t he? What is this rage that keeps overcoming him?

Interesting study into Grimlock's character/character growth--the conflict/balance between his savage nature and his heroic allegiance, perhaps exacerbated by the absence of any other Autobots to keep him in check (or annoy him into abandoning any attempt to hold back). Even the premise, which seems implausible to me--the idea of Grimlock being the last Autobot still functional--you managed to make fairly plausible. (Also appreciate that you also accounted for those other combiners and Omega Supreme--playing off of the graphic novelization of the movie?)
Two things that bug me...
ONE (the most bothersome and easiest fixed): No matter how scared Skywarp is, i think he'd remember that he can teleport to escape Grimlock's wrath. Simple fix, replace Skywarp with another Decepticon, such as Thundercracker, Ramjet, Dirge (heh heh), Acid Storm, or any number of generic Seekers (all Seekers who would have existed when this story takes place), or perhaps a Battlecharger or Triggercon or Duocon (three sub-groups whose origin stories i don't know, but might provide you with named 'Cons you could kill off and not need later in the story). Trickier alternative fix, have Skywarp's ability to teleport damaged somehow. (If Grimlock damages it, it has to be early in the fight, before Skywarp has a chance to decide he needs it.)
TWO: How did Grimlock manage to launch the Dinobots without the 'Cons noticing and shooting them down? or at least trying to shoot them down? (Did the 'Cons notice, and having failed to destroy the pods as they launched, worked to track them down later, and that's why Thrust was at the site where Slag landed?)
Two-and-a-half: Where did Grimlock find that many stasis pods, and in good enough condition to do what he's done, and enough fuel to launch them all?
This last note is not a problem, but a suggestion that might or might not have occurred to you (although it may not matter, since it doesn't directly pertain to Grimlock). Even though in your alternate reality retelling of TFTM, Megatron killed Optimus Prime before Prime could knock Megatron off the top of a building... if everything was the same as in the movie up until Megatron shot Prime, then i'd say Megatron still took a pounding--perhaps even severe enough for Starscream to make a move. Maybe Grimlock could take advantage of Starscream's attempt at a coup... or maybe Grimlock could take advantage of Megatron's damaged condition personally.
