References to G.I. Joe in TF cartoons

Anyone find the G.I. Joe references amusing in the TF cartoon?

In the "Only Human" episode, the terrorist called "snake" is quite obviously cobra commander, even the voice is spot on. Even funnier is when he yells "COBRA" in the end of the episode, but he can't quite finish yelling it because of his little cough. Funny stuff.

Also, in "The Dweller in the Depths", Wreck Gar comes to the rescue and he says "Go Joe!". Oddly enough, these two episodes are back to back in the 3rd season.


I know there were G.I. Joe vs. TF comics because I used to have those, but why these references? Were the writers of the TF 3rd season trying to mock the G.I. Joe series because of its waning success, or just being friendly and joking around?
