ToyCo released Astro Magnum which was gray. Radio Shack also released a knock off called Galactic Man (or Shackwave) which was also gray around the same time period. You're probably referring to one of these.

All Shockwaves were made by ToyCo, never by Takara, so I see no reason to call the Radio Shack versions, which are gray, knockoffs. They are legit pre-Transformers in my opinion. Besides, the gray Shockies have the "uncensored" trigger.

If you can - get both. The gray version is cheaper though.

Unless you include the N-4-SR Convert-A-Bot made by Village Toys.

But, yeah, it too was based on the ToyCo mold. Just a darker shade of gray w/ purple trim. I personally own none of these gray variants. Just the purple (cartoon accurate) one for me...

I'm glad to own a purple Shockwave also because in the 80's I had received one of these grey versions.

I can't say if my toy was Astro Magnum or Radio Shack,I just remember that it had electronics and colorless, transparent effect on hand and the little cannon.
It was a very tough toy as quality,I always liked it a lot.
