Transformers G1 Soundwave Figure

Post by Droids »

There are a lot of transformers being passed off as vintage G1 Toys.
The Soundwave transformer that I used to have was very similar to another
transformer called Blaster.
Although both Soundwave and Blaster were based on the
1980's "BOOMBOX STEREO",both transformers also had different color schemes.
My SOUNDWAVE was about the size of a small 9 to 10 inch color Tv.
It had four buttons to play cassette tapes, switch to AM/FM Radio, and
could even transform to robot mode.
Does anyone else remember this forgotten SOUNDWAVE RADIO?

Maybe I did have blaster, but I do remember it was blue.
There were so many transformer toys and variations way back when.
It was hard to keep up with any of them!

There's no way to take a Blaster mistakenly for a Soundwave, as they are very different castings. Also, the pre-TF Soundwave could never work as radio; Blaster instead did.

You might be thinking of the blue Microchange Blaster...

Welcome to TransFormerLand, Droids! Are you the Droids we're looking for?

To build on what Jose said, i wonder if you did not actually own an original Soundwave (see this link), but actually owned another Transformer i believe was much rarer, a Japanese exclusive called Twincast (see this link), which was a recolored version of the original Blaster toy (see this link).

In the cartoon, Soundwave and Blaster looked different from each other because their toys looked different from each other. In the Japanese version of the cartoon, both of them later got new improved bodies and changed their names. The original toys were recolored and sold with those new names. Strangely, Blaster (now Twincast) got new colors similar to Soundwave's original colors, and Soundwave got a new name similar to Blaster's original name (see this link about Soundwave when he changed his name to Soundblaster).

Some other links you may find useful:
Soundwave toys
Blaster in the comics and Blaster toys
Blaster in the cartoon
Soundwave in the cartoon
Soundwave in the 1980s comics
Soundwave in many other Transformers stories
