3rd party, how do they size up?
Finally in the midst of making he slow transition to 3rd party/MP collecting and I was wondering how do they size up compared to original G1's? Bigger, smaller, about the same? My question really lies with the Dinobots.

I'm not particularly experienced with 3p, but I do know there are over 10 different companies producing Dinobots. You may have to be more specific!

It's a love hate relationship with 3rd party. They give us such awesome stuff, but Hasbro gets none of the money. It makes me feel weird buying it. I only own 2 3rd party items, fansproject G3 trailer and City Commander.

@duttry, Yeah, I hear ya. We are working on trying to assemble a comprehensive archive, but it's nearly impossible to even determine the scope of what to cover, what with everything from garage kits to add ons to transforming figures that don't represent existing classic characters. One of our friends at the Transmissions podcast provided a spreadsheet of figures and their official equivalents, but even with his wide net, it's nigh impossible to catch all the variants and versions. JustIToys alone released the Dinobots at WST scale in 3 colors each, possibly more... Half the time, the creator's sites don't even list all their products.
As the 3rd parties continue to proliferate, it's going to get harder and harder.
I think at a point they'll reach critical mass, where a few established "big boys" carve up the market amongst themselves, but until then, you have like three different manufacturers of 3rd party, masterpiece-scale Dinos to choose from, and likely in multiple color schemes. The crazy thing is literally NO other toy fandom has this going on!
@Sideways: Yeah, I hear ya. I'm not super intent on making sure Hasbro makes money, as they've told the fandom multiple times that they really don't need us for anything, so I guess this is what happens. If they implemented a program similar to what Mattel has done for MOTUC, I'd probably be more of a loyalist, but they've flat out said they have "no intent to engage in that business model" (you know, the model where they listen to fans, and provide them premium figures)

I've been doing some more digging here of late and TT, you weren't kidding! Now I know of a couple of the big names in 3rd party, like FP, but I did start stumbling across other "no name"(as I would call them) producers of bits and bots. Basically all I want to do is make my collection as "tv screen" accurate as possible. Or maybe kicked up a notch, say "tv screen on steroids" accurate.

My first true love has always and forever G1 figures, but with all the latest crap Hasbro has been releasing I am drawn to purchase some of the various 3rd party figures. There are some really good ones. I plan to purchase the 3rd party Galvatron figure, Reformatted R-10 Eupatorium the Warrior (female robot), Reformatted R-11 Salvia Prominon The Saint (female robot) , MX-I Apollyon (3rd party G1 Megatron figure). Just to name a few.

I hear ya, I'm a G1 fan through and through as well. With that being said, I've always wanted my figs to "look" like they did on the show. Now some did but most didn't. So, I need to fill that toy void and my G1 collection had to pay the ultimate price by funding it LOL. I can honestly say tho that I made out quite well unloading it so..... as the MP/3rd parties roll in I'll start/update my collection thread.SentinelPrime wrote:My first true love has always and forever G1 figures, but with all the latest crap Hasbro has been releasing I am drawn to purchase some of the various 3rd party figures. Re: 3rd party, how do they size up?
there are certain figures that Hasbro just doesn't or won't make, which is were i feel the 3p companies step in.
A "Generations" Cy-kill for instance. Got my 3p (Unique Toys/DX9) Salmoore this past summer and I love him then there are others that I need to fill in the gaps of my "generations" mini bots, like igear's bee(001/002)

I've finally decided what my first major 3rd party piece(s) will be, and I'm goin big........, but having trouble on which one to get, maybe someone here with experience can help. T'will be either TFC's Hercules or Maketoys Green Giant. Any input would be great, thanks.

Jolly Green Giants plastic is better and looks more like the cartoon. I would get him. Hasbro is also coming out with one, but no pics on it yet. I would wait and see as the are all so expensive.duttry98 wrote:I've finally decided what my first major 3rd party piece(s) will be, and I'm goin big........, but having trouble on which one to get, maybe someone here with experience can help. Ah cool deal, thanks for the info! I'll definitely hold out then and see what they offer. Theirs may come in much lower than the others on the price scale. May I ask where you find this good info?skywarp408 wrote:Jolly Green Giants plastic is better and looks more like the cartoon. I would get him. I typed in Green giant and Hercules in google and found a guy on youtube doing a video on them just in combined form.duttry98 wrote:Ah cool deal, thanks for the info! I'll have to track that one down, thanks. Well I guess until I can see the Hasbro version to help make a decision, I'm going to start with Warbotron's WB-01 Bruticus.skywarp408 wrote:

Re: 3rd party, how do they size up?
So I watched three in depth, one more so than the others, comparison videos of TFC Hercules and Maketoys Green Giant and in all three Green Giant trumped Herc big time. All and any questions I had got answered. So, now, this round has been won by Green Giant. Time to wait it out and see Hasbros take on it to make a final call.

I have seen a pic of g creations thunderous (sludge) in limb mode next to warbotron heavy noise in what could be considered limb mode (minus the foot as the foot comes with their version of onslaught) and thunderous towers over him so this set of dinobots mite be mp scale.even if the are not mp it is still going to be a huge combinerduttry98 wrote:Finally in the midst of making he slow transition to 3rd party/MP collecting and I was wondering how do they size up compared to original G1's? Re: 3rd party, how do they size up?
Being an early adapter of TFC's, I went with Hercules as each one came out. Also sprung for the Rage kit when it was first released. Having not had any experience with MT's Giant, I'm curious to know which way you went (CW Devy?) and what you think about it?
Re: 3rd party, how do they size up?
Well.... since I started this thread, my 3p collection has grown leeps and bounds. But as per the Devy situation, I picked up a Hasbro SDCC version and on deck preorder wise for the Gravity Builder coming out by Generation Toys.
