Painting G1 Thunderwing

Post by krazycp »

I have recently starting restoring a G1 Thunderwing. I want to touch up the rubbed off paint on the figure, but I'm not sure the best paint to use. The black paint is very glossy. Do I want to use an enamel or acrylic black gloss? Any help is appreciated.

I know someone else will come along with a better answer, but I find you will have difficulties with acrylic sticking to plastic. Enamels stick better. If you find it is not glossy enough, you can paint the piece solid in that needed areas, and then do a gloss layer on top of that.

Of course, I use paint pens or paint markers (no difference really, just different names based on brand) for touch ups like what you are looking at. The oil based ones work better. And I have also been known to use clear fingernail polish as a gloss/paint protector as it sticks to the paint and/or plastic very well.

The clear fingernail polish is also a godsend with loose or worn joints.
