In the G1 Marvel comics, Galvatron occasionally travelled back in time and interacted with Megatron. Did Rodimus Prime ever go back in time and interact with Hot Rod? (Even less likely: Targetmaster Hot Rod going back in time and interacting with Rodimus Prime? ...Wait, is that only right for the G1 cartoon timeline?)

Based on memory no, but I might be wrong. I don't think that they really wanted Rodimus interacting with Hot Rod because Hot Rod would probably recognise him, so that fans wouldn't go alpha nerd on them and point out that they had caused a time paradox that would have altered Rodimus' memories and therefore desire to go back in time, stopping the entire event from occouring and sticking the universe in an infinite temprol loop. But hey, just my 2 cents.

If he did I don't remember or never read/saw it.

Think I remember Rodimus asking or wanting to ask Optimus for advice so depending on the continuity and how much Rodimus hates his younger self he might consider or attempt it. Going back to a time with less responisbilities where everything was clear cut to gain perspective. Alternatively (and with some continuities) he could just remove the matrix and rebecome Hot Rod.

Time travel and paradoxes aside Hot Rod and Rodimus or Pax and Optimus aren't that different. Changes caused by the matrix in structure, form, and character seem less than Unicron's reformatting. Outside of in-universe reasons there's less writers could potentially work with it and less impact for the audience. Sound Blaster's right, they'd potentially recognise each other and whatever else that could cause it makes a different situation. Might be Hot Rod has insane confidence because that already happened and he knows he'll be prime, or because he's a turbo-revving young punk. :P
