Introduction and some customs.... (lots o pics)

Post by captainamerica »

**First Post** Whooooo-Hooooo!**

Hello Everybody!
Brand new to the board but a longtime toy collector. Boardmember Ramjet invited me over from another, nonTF-board after I shared a few of my customs with him.
Like I said, I am a longtime collector, but I'll admit my Transformer knowledge and collection is a huge weak spot. My collection is mainly Chogokin (japanese die-cast robots, like Shogun Warriors), Lego, and a huge range of action figures from the original GI Joe up to modern stuff like Justice League, Avatar the Last Airbender, and some 25th GI Joes and TF Classics.

Enough of the pleasantries, here's the TOYS!!!

I haven't quite finished this Prime, mainlt because I haven't decided who he is: Decepticon, Autobot, or Green Lantern.

and some Classics 'upgrades'. I should start by mentioning I really, really HATE the light gray plastic used on Optimus Prime and a maybe a few others, so I invested in some Krylon Fusion Silver (before and After):

Also, I thought Hasbro really screwed up on a few of Ultra Magnus' parts as well. If he's all white, wtf is up with those black hands/shins/knee joints?? So, a little fusion (white for the hands and shins, silver for the knee joints and gun), a litle touch upon the face and waist, and I have a much better Magnus, IMO:

Finally, I really like the 'City Commander' set that's been released, but I can't bring myself to spend the $100+ on it, so I created my own upgrade. Behold, the Magnus Cannon:
Image
In this mode, doors that hang off Magnus' forearms act as hand guards, and his smaller blaster (attached to his back) act as an 'exhaust'. The cannon connects to his back via a cable that Magnus holds in his right hand.

'so that's why they call you ultra magnus' -bumblebee

I've just watched your pics and that green Optimus prime surprised me.

Welcome, Cap! I thought you were dead after all the Civil War nastiness!

Welcome back to the land of moving parts!

You and my husband should go bowling sometime. He's a big 'Ol Shogun Warrior/Mazinger Z man.

I really like one of the ideas you were kicking around...that of your green Optimus Prime being a Green Lantern! 8) That could be an is completely and totally plausible! A Cybertronian Green Lantern with their own built in powers augmented by a ring.

Very cool........ but I think it'd be hard to get spandex on a semi truck....good thing you can paint him!

Anyhoo........

All of your customs and the paint application additions to your Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus looks spectacular!

Hope to see more of you and your work around!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!!

@Roar: here's a pic for your husband, I recently had to move my gokin cabinet, so everybody had to be pulled out to make sure nobody fell (and possibly shattered any of the glass):
Image

@hound: Thanks for your honesty. It's so rare for somebody on a message board to come right out and say they dislike a custom. I appreciate criticism, so, I'm wondering, is it just the color schemes you dislike on Prime and Jazz? Or do you see other flaws in the bots? Thanks again for your input!!

You're welcome mate!
First let me say that your painting skills looks great to me, you clearly have a knack for it.
When I say the OP and Jazz didn't quite do it for me, in the case of OP it's just the colour :P It's original and all, but he looks like he's barfed all over himself.
For a green hue, british racing green would look the part.
Paint his chrome parts in metallic gold and I'd buy him from you! :D

Jazz just looks a bit dull. The fact that he lacks stickers probably adds to this. But I agree with Catilla that the red is nice on him.
For me, the black front bumper, roof and spoilers look very off.
Maybe take some inspiration from the original?
Touches of black detailing and orange indicators would improve on the colour scheme I think.
For the front bumper, I'd invert the colour scheme, so that the black areas are red and vice versa. That'd make more sense since what you've painted red are actually the air intakes.

For his robot mode, I'd give his waistpiece some colouring, same with the black parts of his lower legs. Maybe a darker shade of red/orange to give contrast?
And his visor would give great contrast in his upper body with either yellow or orange!

Dammit, now I want to make customs myself....!
