Oh, Gobots! They had the bad luck of being represented by a poor TV show... But the toys, at first (Machine Robo, before they were Gobots) were extremely popular in Japan because of their more simple construction and playability.
This article sums up very well my thoughts regarding Gobots:

Especially the earlier Gobots are very good - mostly in their vehicle modes, the robots themselves were fairly basic and crude. Currently I'm missing only one Gobot to complete a Puzzler... It has eluded me for a good while.

I think you should flip that around and say "Having that little bastard die
10 times in the movie would have made it better."

I can't believe this, But I agree with Arcee. That's a pretty good comment for an Autobot.

The reason why there is no G1 Megatron is because they can't make one good enough to fit the character.
The reason why there is so many OP's is because they got to keep bringing him back everytime Megatron kills him.

LOL, thanks. you nearly ruined my PC when I spat out the tea I was drinking!
Megatron has NEVER Killed Prime, in the movie it was Prime who caused his own death. He could have taken the shot at Megs even when HR was there, Prime is a better shot that you give him credit for.
I have a cool pic of megatron...... scroll down....
