I'm watching the Dallas Cowboys play Clevland Browns and they all have a patch on their uniforms "GU." What is that suppose to represent???

He passed In August.

Okay sorry to show my lack of sports knowledge, who is Gene Upshaw? Was he a football player who was killed? Please give a more detailed explanation. Much appreicated!

Gene Upshaw was a football player for the Oakland Raiders and the director of the NFLPA (National Football League Player's Association.)

He died August 20th of pancreatic cancer.

In his honor, the NFL has announced that for the 2008-2009 season, every player will wear a "GU" patch, also with Gene's number 63; for the opening games of the season, the "GU" and "63" are inscribed on the field.
