Once and For All

Post by Arcee »

I've been curious for some time about how the vote would turn out for something like this, but I've been pushed over the edge now that TT has made fun of me for listening to Elvis.

So, let's go! As for me, it's the King all the way.

I possibly think if this poll went public it would end up as a tie.

Well Elvis started out in the mid 50's and kept proving himself to be called the KING until the 70's, The Beatles were only a group for around 7 years before they split up. Not to mention they became a studio band in the last couple of years as a band, they never toured.

With those facts, one would probably say Elvis gets the vote.
He probably would still be swinging those hips if he were alive today.

But my vote goes for the beatles.
They revolutionanized the rock n roll industry.
They did so many hits within the short time as a band.
I have ALL of their music.

Elvis did music
So did the Beatles

Elvis did music
So did the Beatles

Elvis has memorbilia
So do the Beatles

Elvis has action figures
So do the Beatles

the list goes on and on...

You make some good points, I totally agree. But Elvis did the same ... in fact, he didn't just revolutionize, he more or less created a whole new genre with rockabilly. Some would argue that there wouldn't be rock 'n' roll if not for Elvis. He's influenced so many artists, from Dylan to Jagger. John Lennon himself even said, "Nothing really affected me until I heard Elvis. If there hadn't been an Elvis, there wouldn't have been a Beatles."

Though, I have to admit my own bias here, because I did this big research paper on him when I was in college, so learning all the stuff I learned about him has certainly swayed me. I don't know as much about the Beatles, which is why I was curious to get some of your answers.

Of course, now I'm just waiting for Ultra Magnus to inevitably make some page-long post with about a hundred different reasons as to why the Beatles are superior ... which I will promptly ignore. :P  Heheh, j/k.

I respect both parties as having made a huge impact on modern music.

But for me it is Elvis all the way, my father is a massive Elvis fan, so I have grown up with his music being part of my life. I have very fond memories of watching Elvis movies with my dad in the evenings as a kid.

ALL HAIL THE KING!

True, but aside from being a top singer, Elvis was also a film star in his own right.

I never knew John Lennon said that about Elvis Arcee.
You bring up some good points
Without Elvis, there would probably be no Beatles.
Well... maybe, maybe not.

But did Elvis ever come up with lyrics like this...

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I'm crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,
Coo coo, kachoo.

Mister City P'liceman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I'm crying.
I'm cry, I'm crying, I'm cry, I'm crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl and you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman (woo), they are the eggmen (woo), I am the walrus,
Coo coo, kachoo.

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don't come, you get a tan from
Standing in the English rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
Coo coo kachoo ka coo coo kachoo.

Expert texpert choking smokers,
Don't you think the joker laughs at you? (ho ho ho, he he he, ha ha ha)
See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snide.
I'm crying.

Semolina Pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
Coo coo kachoo ka coo coo kachoo
(rhythmical speaking along with juba's).
Juba juba juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba, juba juba. Juba juba.....

Elvis made a slew of movies too! I like Clambake the best there's a Corvette in that one.

Don't forget.........the Leakeys named Australopithecus aferensis after the Beatles song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" too! :D

This is the first rock group to have a clear and proven connection to the paleontological world.
