Beatles = 50% surviving.
Elvis = 100% dead.
No Beatle off-spring ever married Michael Jackson.
No Elvis album inspired a movie in which both George Burns and Steve Martin sing (and destroyed the carreers of the Bee Gee's).
Beatles did what they could to end wars.
Beatles never married underage women.
Beatles created a recording industry in their hometown, Elvis only went to Memphis as there was recording industry there already.
And if we are going to quote catchy Beatles lyrics:
Here come old flattop he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please
He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me
He bag production he got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me
He roller-coaster he got early warning
He got muddy water he one mojo filter
He say "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me
Now add to this, that the Beatles never tried to make a rock hit out of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and I think we have a winner!

Beatles lyrics eh, ok then :-
* Sings *
We all live in a yellow submarine
A yellow submarine
A yellow submarine ....................... etc
Elvis lyrics :-
We cant go on together
With suspicious minds.
I think that the songs that Elvis sung were more true to life
In the Ghetto
Suspicious Minds
But I think that the Beatles had more of an impact on the industry with their songs form the Lennon and Macca team
Lady Madonna
Penny Lane
Eight days a week
SGT Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
All You Need Is Love
But I still prefer Elvis ...............

It's a little sad that your denunciation of Elvis is entirely reliant on everything outside his actual music. So, because Elvis is dead, and half the Beatles are still alive, that makes them better artists? Because Elvis' daughter married Wacko Jacko, that is somehow a testament to her father's music? Okay.Ultra Magnus wrote:Beatles = 50% surviving.

And call me crazy, but "He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football" doesn't exactly appeal to me in terms of lyrics...

She is right to chew me out?Snarl wrote: BUT, Arcee is correct
Obviously the post wasn't made in seriousness. The lyrics that she is slamming from my post were an extension of someone else's humor attempt.
Also, let me note that nowhere in the opening post of this thread was there anything saying "Hey, this about their music only," so had I not been joking, her post is still a bit harsh.
The fact that I am called out in this thread is a little sad.

I think you might be over reacting a bit.Ultra Magnus wrote:She is right to chew me out?Snarl wrote: BUT, Arcee is correct

Beatles had a closer influence for the music I like the most - UK based rock of the 60s and early 70s -, and only because that. Let's say their music sounds much more alike - I like the later Beatles era. It's only a matter of shape, not of form, and that's why I also respect Elvis. He made a huge revolution during the 50s, was very talented, had a splendor and decadence, had a tragic death... All what you need to create the legend of a rockstar. So, how am I going to be so stubborn to not to acknowledge that?Arcee wrote:In what way?Jose wrote:I voted for the Beatles, but only because I'm biased.
However, the Beatles with their psychodelic sound, settled the bases for the bands I admire: Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Led Zeppelin, etc. It's like having two great dishes in front of you, but you have to take one... Well, I'll go for the one which I like better, even if both are, in rational terms, great, if it's possible to measure in rational terms. To me, it's not, so that's why I was biased to cast my vote.
That's really interesting; thank you. Like I said, my bias is because I know and have heard so much more Elvis than I have the Beatles. In terms of exposure to their music, the little bit that I am familiar with hasn't really left me grasping for more, but maybe I just haven't heard the right stuff. I wouldn't know where to begin.
