can't believe it's 15 years. all of us 80's kids were rescued from hair metal by Nirvana. they are a group I find hold thier relevance and would be popular even in the modern music scene. take a listen to an old nirvana album/cd/mp3 and feel free to comment!

When i think of the 90's the first thought that comes to mind is NIRVANA.

Nirvana is easily one of my favorite bands of that time, sad thing what happened, use to have a poster of Cobain... don't know what happened to it...

I rember seeing the viedo for the first time,I was sitting in a nasty chair at a friend's girlfriends house well little camper house,there was about 10 of us stuffed in there.Well the video came on and I got down on one knee in front of the T.V. and thank God for the end of the hair band 80's crap. Well another friend of mine that was a huge 80's freak that worship Posion,and would dance like Axel Rose,he looked like such a Dork when he did it,said to me"No way dude Posion will always be around and Warrent to (however you spell that lame bands name).I just looked at him and said its over dude the new Gods of Rock have spoken.........I was right muhahahhahahahahahahahahaha

warrant! they sucked. don't forget about winger. poison was from my home town in PA. my sister used to love those poofs. yeah nirvana did change the scene that is for sure. thank god.

Semi-interesting sidenote: During Nirvana's rise to fame, an article in Rolling Stone stated that Kurt Cobain hailed from "the edge of nowhere" (Aberdeen, WA). Considering my hometown is 20 miles west of there, I am officially from "nowhere".

Oh, and Kurt MUST have been murdered. He had his problems, but I simply refuse to believe he would have willingly left his daughter to that cracpot Courtney.

Love Nirvana...it's too bad every other alternative rock singer since then wants to take after Kurt -_-

I never was a Nirvana fan, and still I'm not. However, I do appreciate them... Because, that's the time when I was a teenager. An era I resisted, but now, oh, memories! Can't say I at least smile when I hear something from Nirvana.

Musically, they weren't my cup of tea either, but I think Pearl Jam were better... I have always seen Nirvana as those who did the step forward, but that was improved by Pearl Jam.

See, Pearl Jam NEVER did it for me. Except for his cover of "Last Kiss" which makes me freaking cry EVERY time I hear it.

Now, if we want to talk about some REALLY good bands of the era/area...

The slew of various co-op efforts (or precursors to) of the local artists (Mad Season, Temple of the Dog, et al.)

Oh, and of course, my favorite band ever, Sky Cries Mary. Though their sound was quite dissimilar from any/all of the above.

Pearl Jam were cool too. alice in chains and mudhoney were also good. i just wonder where nirvana could have gone musically. unplugged in NY was amazing and showed the potential for evolution.

It's REALLY hard to say... especially given that Kurt Cobain had said he was *trying* to make In Utero as non-commercial as possible, because he was *already* tired of the fame.

So, most likely, you'd either end up with more music along the lines of the B-sides that comprised Incesticide, or you'd get something akin to chainsaw grinding.

Long story short... Kurt was DONE. (Consequently, another reason *somebody* didn't want him around anymore, methinks).

EDIT: While we're at it, RIP Layne Staley (who died exactly 8 years to the day after Kurt) too. But good riddance to that Blind Melon guy (Hoon?)... j/k. Mostly.

Incecticide has always been my favorite Nirvana album.
With Aerozepplin, and Sliver my fav. songs on it.

I totally agree with you Brawn.
When UP first came out, i had "non"Nirvana fans actually liking it.
But perhaps that's not what Kurt wanted.
He didn't want to be commercialized.

Bleach is my all time favorite album
But most of my favorite Nirvana songs are b-sides
