My other half and I noticed that too! (We had also guessed that they thought it was either too long, or too grammatically correct to appeal to the new, illiterate generation) So we did some digging...

Get this: The bigwigs in charge think "SyFy" is "less geeky"! Bwahahahah!
I'm completely serious. Want a good laugh? Read this article about it:

Yeah, it really was their attempt at drawing a less geeky audience, as ratings have been falling....

Of course, they could try running some of the decent stuff they used to have on. You know, classic shows, instead of really low budget crappily scripted movie of the weeks.

For craps sake, they continually air Man-thing. That is right, the absolutely unairable movie based on the 70's Marvel comic with the worst comic title in all of history.... Giant Sized Man Thing (that is your cue Galvy).

I guess the kids of today do have one thing better.... Their comics titles aren't confused for porn.

They announced the change back in March. Apparently SciFi was too geeky of a name for the SciFi Channel. They can also trademark Syfy. Unfortunately it looks ridiculous, sounds ridiculous, and is Polish for Syphilis.

How DARE you dispute the pure genius of Wraiths of Roanoke ("Based on Actual Events!") starring renowned thespian Adrian Paul!

(This movie NEEDS to be in the Guinness Book of World Records for most liberal use of Based on a True Story/Actual Events.)

Gah!! I hated that movie. I like Adrian Paul. But I could beat him to a pulp for agreeing to do that movie.

Most of the scifi channels movies are terrible, anyone here ever see "DNA" or "Warbirds"? Utter Rubbish!

I currently don't have cable, at least the cable that lets me watch scifi channel, but do they still have Animondays? That and the marathons they do are the only things I liked in recent years... last marathon I caught was Forever Knight.

Whenever I see that movie I'm always expecting a 300lb male truck driving stripper to pop out of thin air. Man-thing.......ugh!!!!!! The word makes me shutter as much as flipping past the movie on "SyFy"
