I don't know who Jose is but i hope he's alright too

Nature seems to be on the warpath recently ever since we failed to get a binding agreement on climate change in December - Haiti, Chile, that monster storm currently causing havoc and flooding across western Europe. I dread to think what the hurricane season will be like this year and the annual European heatwave.

Hi all,

I'm doing fine, but I have no electricity or telephone at the moment - just logging in from work. I live in Santiago, it struck at an 8 degree. My family was just scared but alright.

I'll be busy for a while, as we are on emergency and I'm checking buildings for structural failures.

I'm still worried also for Concepcion, it's the city I was born and I haven't been able to reach anybody from there.

Regards,

This morning I saw a bit and a reporter was talking about Santiago.

Needless to say, I'm glad you're okay, and I hope everyone is fine.

well glad you're okay!

we were just discussing how this quake was so big they are saying it has slightly altered the earth's rotation! shorter days is not cool.

I hope you get in touch with your home town soon!

Its good to know our Jose is ok. Man, two earthquakes in just a couple months with huge effects. This is tough. The axis of the earth possibly has been shifted. Thats bad. My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy.

I was in my science class and we were talking about this and I guess NASA thinks the the Earth's tilt has been moved by like one micrometer because of the earth quake. They also think that because of this, days are now about one microsecond shorter.

Glad to see your ok Jose.

Thank Primus you and yours are ok, Jose! It is good to hear this from you. May the best come to you and your coworkers as you undertake the undoubtedly daunting task of making sure that all the buildings in the region are safe!

New big earthquake to add to that list - eastern Turkey just over 6.0 on the ricter scale with at least 40 aftershocks (yep 40) so far.
