 Post subject: Keeping Toys
PostPosted: Thu Nov 30, 2006 1:18 pm
I'm in the process of weeding out the toys my daughter doesn't play with anymore to make room for stuff Santa might bring. In the past I've always just taken everything to Goodwill, but now I'm starting to wonder if I should save everything in storage. I had a lot of toys when I was a kid that I wish I still had - including transfomers of course. Maybe something she has now will be worth a lot later on.

What do you think? I know some of you have kids, do you keep everything?

I would keep the most played with toys or the ones she seem to like the most, also check condition,I gave my son a Optimus Prime, thundercraker,Soundwave, and a few other cause the were in bad shape,I would keep a few,but I would keep donating, you are giving a kid or kids out there a happy x-mas.

I don't have children, but once I gave away a lot of my old toys to goodwill. I regreted to let go some - pressed steel cars mostly. I gave away with no remorse those which were pre-school oriented, and most of them were in excellent shape.

My opinion? Do cherrypicking first. Give away quality stuff - many time you can see there trashed toys - and keep those which fit your current interests.

Not much I can add here except look long and hard at what you have. Use a lot of caution I gave away all my transformers (over 100) and regret it terribly. My son at the minute is going thro the Thomas the tank engine phase, when he is out of it I will be keepin' that stuff because it is expensive and you never no what might happen in the future, I may have another son (although unlikely!!) give away the old toys that wern't played with but keep the good stuff!!

My dad is a bit of a pack-rat, so its only natural that I'm a pack-rat as well. So I'm all about saving toys, hence that box of old ass Transformers. I actually have a bunch of relics from the 80s including Carebear toys, My Little Ponie, G.I. Joe, Matchbox cars up the wazoo, Mapletown....etc

This is why I still have a NES w/ Powerpad and a Sega Genesis.

Sometimes you feel nastolgic and you go back to that box and it can be fun. Like the otherday, I had some friends over for drinks and we found the box of Transformers and that Punch/Counterpunch one, we couldn't figure it out, which lead to a great conversation and ultimately lead to me joining this forum, lol.

Clerks 2, Kevin Smith's latest flick. There's a character in the movie named Elias and he's a giant nerd and is often the brunt of many jokes with his love for Transformers and LOTR. The movies "antagonist" (randal) is a Star Wars fan and he often tells Elias that "there's only one trilogy and one Return, and it wasn't of the king, it was of the Jedi."

Elias and Randal are going at it one day and Elias says, "Since God created man, and man created the Transformers, the Transformers are like a gift from God, Randal! "
