President's Day (2010)-Maggy'S Movie reviews- President's Day edition (part 1)

Post by Ultra Magnus »

So, everyone has their 31 in 31 list for October.

Many have their 25 non-traditional Xmas movies for December.

And if you do not watch Groundhog's Day on February 2nd, then what are you doing with you life? Nothing worthwhile, that is for sure! So, in honor of today, I will provide you three great movies to celebrate this completely meaningless holiday.

In this almost straight to dvd classic comedy/thriller/slasher flick, student class elections spawn a series of killings by someone in an off the shelf Abe Lincoln costume, complete with cherry tree chopping axe actions... Yes, that was Washington, but who cares about details? These are high school students. What the fuck do they know?

Pluses... boobs within 20 seconds of the opening. A brutal killing of a teen couple within 45 seconds of the opening. Throwbacks to horror classics such as the victim in a wheelchair (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), The mean girl that you hope will be killed long before she does (Scream and Friday the 13th series), a police/administration that want to sweep everything under the rug instead of address the issue (Nightmare on Elm Street series), A black protagonist in an all otherwise white setting that is not the first to die (footage not found). A school mascot that is a horrible pun... The Lincoln Lambs for the slaughter! (a la Student Bodies).

Is the acting good? No. Does the plot track? Not really. Are the kills impressive? Most of them happen right off frame while the stunt man in the costume is in frame aimlessly swinging the axe at what is possibly a victim off screen.

So, why would you watch this steaming pile of schlock? What else would you do for President's Day? Yeah, that is what I thought. Grab your favorite herbal mental stress relief method and enjoy. Not a great film, but very much a great time!
