X (2022)-Maggy's Movie Reviews

Post by Ultra Magnus »

Let me ask you a question.

Have you ever wanted to see the 1970's classic porn film Debbie Does Dallas, but set on the farm from Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

Well, look no further. Have I got the movie for you!

But wait! There's more.

What if I could tell you there is a movie that has Debbie Does Dallas on the farm from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but take the slasher elements from the first Friday the 13th instead of those noisy old chainsaw?

What? Still not enough?

Well, how about if I give you all of that, but write and shoot it like it was a Hitchcock film?

That's impossible, you say?

My friend, the impossible is here!

I did not know what to expect when I heard the concept of this film. It sounded like a mess. It sounded like a mess in the best possible way. I was expecting pure schlock. However, this was actually an artistic tribute to the decade in which I was born. It features classic exploitation elements. It features suspense, build up, and the best type of gore. From beginning to end, I was thoroughly entertained. A24 is known for artistic works, like Midsomar and Hereditary. But little did I know they could be wild, yet not to the point of excess.

It does take a while for the horror element to start. It is a slowburn for the first half. However, in that time we get to meet the characters. We really get a feel for them, their motivations, their struggles, and what they look like naked.

And then the killing start. And when it starts, we are off to the races! The kills are varied, brutal, bloody and insane. You aren't going to see new kills. But you will see masterworks classes in classic kill scenes.

Okay, and since you are going to ask anyway. There are 6 boobs in the movie. 4 real, and 2 special makeup effects.

Would I say to rush out to the theater? It really deserves it. However, I can also see this being the perfect snuggles under the blanket with your sweetie movie.

So, if you want an artistic classic horror that packs in all of the classic elements you love, and gives you a healthy dose of spiciness, watch this film.
