Anyone uses here Skype?
Afteer reading Ben's post that states that he's learning German, I rememered this alternative to make long distance phone calls. Let's say, that I look for an English/German tandem. I offer Spanish/German/English. Spanish however, is my native language.
Now, some might ask what the heck the tandem system is...
It is used to make a language exchange. I am learning one language and someone, sometimes, is learning the same language I know, and already speaks the language I'm learning. So let'ss do trade! Usually, you set an amount of time for each language - it's up to the users.
So, the offer is there, you may add my username to your Skype's contact list and you are set. I use the same nick here and everywhere.

Well this is where things get confusing...
I wrote down on a piece of paper "Bato, Vato and Chato" and shown it to a Spanish friend I work with. He said "Bato" means "Man / dude etc"
He never heard of the word "Vato" and the word "Chato" means dog.
Then he explained that the further south you go, the more the language changes. Then he wrote down some cursing words for me that I don't think would be a good idea to share here LOL

I don't remember the word "Bato", neither from Spain. Maybe they they are joking with you, but "dog"?????
However, it's not about the more the south you go, it's about the more isolated you are. For example, my country is all surrounded by mountains, hence we don't have much contact with our neighbors. However, in Mexico the language is pretty different. In Spain too. Even being up north in Spain.
You can send me privately the cursing words and I will try to translate them for you, LOL. Some of the swearing we use is considered fun by other people, and so it is from every country...
