Hm. That would pay pretty decent, neh? It sounds like you have a much more complicated endorsement system than we do. You also have different names (as always) for all of it. What do you mean by "dumper", since dump truck is listed separately? Is there a special license for ADT's? (articulated dump trucks?)

A dumper is a minature version of a dump truck with the skip front mounted and the driver sits atop the engine facing over the skip.

[img][/img]

That is the swivel skip variation.

As for Articulated dump trucks, in this country they are known as " Moxys " by those in the trade and the license is the same as the dump truck.

I am guessing that you would take a dump truck to be something like Long - Haul, but it is very rare that you see that kind of dump truck in the UK.

Which is annoying because ................. I WANNA DRIVE ONE

That is a new one

He priced a new one up and it was £18,000 plus VAT

So we decided that we could cope with the one we have.
Dirge would make short work of that!!
If you imagine it covered in dents and scratches, the seat cloth ripped, the flashing light missing, four worn out tyres, a twisted steering ram and covered in mud, that would be the one that we have. So you are quite correct

I dare you to tell him that

However, again you are correct.

Fortunately the only things damaged were the wall and his professional pride.

Moxies? WTF? your automotive names make less and less sense.

AE: fender-fends off the dirt and mud flying up from the wheel.
BE: wing- what?

AE: trunk- so named due to old coaches and antique cars having an actual chest or trunk mounted on the back of the car for luggage.
BE: boot- i usually put the whole body back there, not just the foot :P

AE: Dump box- a box on the truck which can be tilted to dump the contents
BE: skip- i'm going to skip what i think about that name.

AE: articulated dump truck- a truck, which can dump, and has a point of articulation between the front and back axles for steering.
BE: moxy- alright, seriously. What do you call a skid-steer loader, a 'chutzpah'?! please don't answer that.

A skid steer loader is just known as a skidder, and they are great fun to drive. Especially when you do not have any attachment on the front and you can pull wheelies with it.

No Galvy, I do not mean that kind of pulling

The dump trucks are only known as moxies to those in the trade, to everyone else they are just dump trucks.

You are correct though, the English language is a bit hard to follow sometimes.

The skip on dumpers is known as such because the first one built used a skip as in a rubbish skip because the people who built it were short of cash.
( I may be wrong here, but that is what I was told )

Not all of the above is my fault in actucl fact it was Kath who twisted the steering ram.
That looks like a new one. Dirge would make short work of that!!
A lot of people dont realise that the enviroment that these machines work in is very harsh and they are built to withstand almost any kind of abuse that i dish out to them
That was a bit silly wasn't it!?
It was not freezing when I set off to drive it home ( they only move at around 15 mph and I was driving it the 25 miles back home )
*Sigh* What a rabble I have under my command.

AE: Skid steer- Wheels to not turn, so it turns by skidding the wheels on one side

AE: Skidder- A large four wheeled vehicle with a claw for pulling logs out of a forest. Called a skidder because the logs just skid behind the vehicle.

so what do you call a skidder?

As far as I know, we do not have such a machine, but I may be wrong.

We use standard tractors with logging cranes mounted on the top of the ( Suitabley reinforced ) cab, they carry heavy ballast weights on the front to stop the machine rearing up .
