D&D, other tabletop RPGs

Post by Time Traveller »

War stories, what you play, whatever you like, post it here 8)

Catalyst: You're supposed to roll a third 20 to kill them instantly, unless you've equipped all your minions with vorpal swords (hmmm.... idea.) My favorite strategy was getting the players to kill each other. Ask Blackjack. Apparently it hurts to have a Daern's instant fortress deployed on top of a character. I'd have never thought of that! They do my job for me

I don't really have time for gaming anymore, and I when I did I played clix and other mini games rather than rpg. But the other site I spend all my time at is a company that makes fantastic cardstock terrain for the miniatures.

But heres some pictures of some builds I did using maps from the D&D shadowfell keep quest.

We played Earthdawn alot... in our games, when you were GMing, if you were *smart* and had a roll like that? You'd be behind a screen so you could say the equivalent of "19! Close!"... else you'd get pelted with about 100 dice. (Earthdawn uses LOTS AND LOTS of dice. Dicechucker's paradise.)

Not a tabletop gamer whatsoever, but that castle set up is really cool looking.

Blackjack and I actually found a TF tabletop RPG, we were going to try it but our party fell apart before we ever really got started. Strangely, the characters Blackjack and Cambreaker both came from that failed campaign!

I've been playing D&D for years. But I started my tabletop rpg experiance with Battletech. Currently I can't find a group for either.
Virtually no one plays classic Battletech anymore and all the D&D groups around town are full... or flops.

With both games though I have more fun creating characters than actually playing the game.

@TT: Hmm... I think me and my group thought trying to get three 20's in a row for an instant kill is a little ridiculous. If your attack roll is a 20 that guarantees a hit, then you roll again to see if that hit is a critical hit, and that roll just has to meet or exceed their AC to succeed. Making a 20 on that second roll should be enough. Trying to make a third 20 is just asking too much... unless your dice are weighted.

I haven't played D&D in several months now. Battletech has been about a year or more. (Battletech I can set up mock battles and fight myself but I don't count that)

I have been told I'm a master at non-bias gaming. Meaning that I can run a 4 sided battle by myself and not favor a side... Same with D&D more times than not I had to bring in one of my characters while Dm'ing just to shore up the ranks or get the players out of a situation, and I've never been accused of catering to my character. Thats something I'm proud of.

The only other tabletop game I've ever tried is Vampire "The Masquerade"
All that was needed is a catalyst... and the machines of war are set in motion.

Me and several friends were wondering a reputable website to buy a D&D tabletop set. Any suggestions?

Here some stuff from another forum I go to.

For 4e they have some freebie stuff on the webpage: http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/dndtestdrive

For 3.5 the SRD: http://www.d20srd.org/

One of my favorite characters that I've ever made is a Dwarven Cleric named Borador Stonebreaker. Specifically he's a battle cleric. A forgotten Realms character that is a cleric of Clannigeddin Silverbeard.

Upon first look at him he would look like your typical heavy armored, shield toting, (Dwarven) War Axe swinging type. But what makes him special is his tactics, specifically his favored weapon and his signiture spell.
He uses his spiked gauntlet and his shield as a weapon more than his axe.
And any major battle he always starts off by casting Enlarge person on himself.

Theirs no terror like a 12 foot, 4000 pound Dwarf stomping through the battlefield with a murdurous glee!
All that was needed is a catalyst... and the machines of war are set in motion.

Here some more from that other website:

4E also has a Boxed starter set for 18$ that includes quickstart rules, a DM packet, a dice set, and a bunch of tokens and tiles to facilitate some combat. That and the free download of Keep on the Shadowfell should be a good, cheap start.

As for solid websites to buy from, RPGnow has been reliable for me, but iirc it's PDF only. Otherwise I recommend the usual suspects - Amazon, Barnes and Noble.
For EEUU or Europe ?

For Europe I'm lately buying at www.ludikbazar.com they have quite a few discounts in "not new" things and a very quick service (otherwise -USA- I keep ebaying - everytime less- googling...until I find something cheap )

I had a player in D&D WWII that always did some sort of holy might/enlarge spell on himself... He just made an easier target for tanks ;)
