9/9/09 was the Dreamcast's 10th anniversary , Sega's system code-named "katakana" , it had 300,000 pre-orders and sold a total of 372,00 units it's first day in north America, but failed in japan. It had solid titles like sonic adventure, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Skies of Arcadia , fantasy star online, and quake III arena, But The ps2 was waiting to destroy sega's last hope.
With Sega's hope rising terrible things happen, microsoft anounces there new conslole and the n64 is selling well and the gamecube on the way, and worst the man who had made the dreamcast a success in the US was fired for not agreeing with his boss, things looked bad. Also sega was lacking 3rd party support after the failure of the Saturn no companies believed in sega and when the ps2 was released it seemed that Sega gave up. Sony's ps2 had the ability to play dvds, the Microsoft's xbox was right around the corner and sega soon producing the dreamcast.
Anyway the dreamcast is one of my favorite consoles. srry for posting this so late. I know some of the people here are in to video games so I posted this. Happy tenth birthday dreamcast !

Soundwave, I too enjoyed that console. The controller ergonomics are far superior to that of the Game Cube, original xbox controllers, all the PlayStation controllers as they haven't changed the design too much if at all since the first PlayStation. N64's were sweet as are the 360 controllers. I have my Dreamcast still. in storage now but Crazy Taxi is wicked fun!!!

There's homebrewed servers for Phantasy star, y'know:S0und_wave wrote:They took down the servers for Phantasy Star and I don't see why sega can't put out a decent sonic game.

I bought Dreamcast in December 1999 and I was very happy for this console because i finally could play Marvel vs Capcom, thenn,a good game with Sonic after so much time , and other good games ...
when I bought dreamcast,I played especially Sonic Adventure 1,it was a great game and I was surprised by Soul Calibur 1,graphics,light effects,atmosphere...it was awesome
too bad that after code veronica and other good games the console began to weaken a lot, with less and less titles announced and when i bought Sonic adventure 2 i had already read that soon sega would have left the hardware market...
dreamcast had a short life but memorable besides i would have liked to play also phantasy star online.

I never owned a Dreamcast but had several friends who did. I only ever played Phantasy Star and Virtua Fighter on it.
I play the Phantasy Star Universe on Xbox now.

All that was needed is a catalyst... and the machines of war are set in motion.
