What or who do you (humorously or seriously) think you'd be a lot better at - being a (good or bad) Transformer Autobot or Decepticon (with name and description) or a Star Trek captain and please say why.

I'd be an Autobot Pretender then I could just be a Star Trek Captain.

I'd be a transformer that turns into a Star Trek Ship!
I'd call myself Warpcore!

Speaking of Star Trek I just got this Star Trek: Tactical Assault game for my DS... Haven't got to play it yet but it looks cool.

Prepare to be one-upped.

I would be a Pretender Headmaster whose transtector (body the headmaster attaches to) Transforms into a Star Trek warship. A la Grand Maximus.

TT, i'll see your Grand Federation Starship Maximus and raise you a holodeck! i can be Grand Maximus one day, Bumblebee the next, Captain Picard the day after that, Trypticon reconfigured with a DS9 disguise mode the day after that, and Lieutenant Tom Paris with a Delta Flyer Transtector the day after that.

But KL70 asked us another question, which do you think you'd be a lot better at? and for that, i'd say i'd make a better Autobot than a Decepticon or a Star Trek captain.

i wouldn't want the responsibility of being a Star Trek captain, having to make life-and-death decisions that not only affect me, but my entire crew, not to mention if there are any passengers on board, or if there are any other ships, space stations, inhabited planets/moons, or anything else nearby that my actions--or inaction--might put at risk. (There's a reason i'm still a STARS Commando, even after Ultra Magnus invited me to become a STARS Commander.)

With very few exceptions (TF non-leaders far outnumber the TF leaders for any faction), Autobots just have to follow orders--and if i chicken out, the Autobots would be much more understanding about it than Decepticons. After all, most of the Autobots never intended to be soldiers, and many of them still dislike it. So i think i'd do better as an Autobot than as a Star Trek captain.

i'd definitely do better as an Autobot than as a Decepticon. Personal ethics aside, if i were a Decepticon, i'd probably wind up like "the little one" in ROTF whom the Doctor had killed for spare parts.

Until you find you have no army left.

Honestly, I think I'd do best as an Autobot squad-level commander. All the way Transformer, little way a leader. Just a small, tight-knit team, maybe like a special combiner team. Maybe work my way up from there.

STARS...

I'll see your holodeck and point out that having a pretender headmaster with the ship itself as the transtector, i am already EQUIPPED with a holodeck, plus, I can utilize it with my headmaster body, and still have the real-world transtector to back up my decisions when the Decepticon Klingon Bird-of-Prey seekers show up.

i am one-upped. TT, i doff my cap to you.

But, i still maintain that it'd be better if i wasn't responsible for filling such an important role--although, i suppose bad guys don't always care if you're in charge, or an underling, or a civilian, and when bad guys come after you and yours it's best to be as strong, as fast, and as heavily-armed, as heavily-shielded as possible.

What'sa matter, 'Bolt? Too afraid of heights to reach the upper echelons of geekery? ;-)

...Huh. i wonder what the Matrix would do to the Borg. After all, it's not like the Matrix would, for example, compel Superion to separate into the individual Aerialbots, right? even though a combiner team's gestalt form is a lot like the Borg collective.

This is a pretty simple question. In the first episode, the Matrix would appear to completely eradicate the Borg...

Until sweeps week, when the new, Matrix-powered Borg return, only to be thwarted by the combined efforts of the Ghost of Optimus Prime, Captain Picard, and MacGyver.

if whopi goldberg couldn't beat the borg, i doubt prime can be much of a factor. Macgyver on the other hand. that man could turn a cosmic rusted transformer into an artificial sun.

So, I was reading the "story bible" (set of rules provided to the episode writers of a show) to the G1 cartoon, and Optimus Prime is supposed to "lead with wisdom" and do so like "Abe Lincoln." Plus, MacGyver is MacGyver, but the Matrix is a McGuffin.
Under the correct circumstances, the Matrix would make the borg pull off all their cybernetic parts (think Unicron), and then their technology would be used to regenerate them all to their original, organic, individual forms before delivering them home and self-destructing.

STARS, we need to show these noobs that Transforming Federation capital ships is only the beginning of true transformers geekery. Dude, I saw fan art of a two-bot combiner TNG Enterprise the first time I used the internet, at Uncle Don's. He printed me the picture on his old dot-matrix, and I proceeded to make a transformable paper-and-brass-fastener model of it. I was about 12.

Oh yeah, i remember that episode! "And then you took off your energy mask, and you were Cameron Diaz!"

i know! Right? i mean, transforming cities and transforming planets, they can deal with those, no problem, but show them some transforming capital ships, and they're all like, "I can't deal with that now!"

Dude, i am one-upped again. A preteen making "a transformable paper-and-brass-fastener model" of "a two-bot combiner TNG Enterprise" printed off the Internet on what i can only assume is an Aut-old-dot matrix of Leadership Creation? GEEK. And i mean that as high complimentitude. (Although, i don't know that i would spend my first time on the Internet looking for any sort of crossovers--there's so much canonical stuff, whether it's TF or Trek or Star Wars or whatever, that i still have to learn about, plus the fanworks thereof, without even getting into the crossovers.)

i used to try to make "Transformers" out of paper. Looking back, they were sad, pathetic things, and i'm ashamed of how proud i was of them. (The fact that i couldn't even figure out a normal paper airplane probably should have tipped me off to the fact that my attempts were doomed to failure.) My LEGO TFs weren't much better, although sometimes i think i could do some pretty cool stuff now if i had enough of the right pieces.

i dunno, it's like my imagination exceeds my ability to physically render things to my satisfaction. Maybe that's why i'm so wordy: A picture may be worth a thousand words, but if i can't draw the picture well enough, i have to spell out the thousands of words, instead. Besides, with words i can point out the subtle details that may go unnoticed in a picture.

On a more Trek-specific note, i'm a better TransFan than i am a Trekkie. i like Trek, but my interest stems mainly from getting hooked on "Star Trek: Voyager". i've seen "First Contact" and miscellaneous episodes of the other Trek TV series, but i know more about Trek tech than i know about any of the non-Voyager characters. i'm really much more into Star Wars than Star Trek--probably in part because i just know so much more about Star Wars.

i had an interesting thought looking at this thread: i'm kind of like my hero G1 Bumblebee, if we substitute "geekiness" for "combat-readiness". Think of it in Tech Specs terms--my "Courage" (my willingness to be seen and thought of as a geek) is high, but my "Strength" (knowledge of things geeky) and "Firepower" (collection of geek toys, DVDs, books, games, etc.) are below average. (Continuing with the Tech Spec metaphor but drifting away from the Bumblebee aspect) i might have high scores in "Speed" (how quickly i can remember the geeky things i know and/or find out the geeky things i don't know) and "Endurance" (how long it takes me to get tired of a geeky conversation) and "Skill" (what i can do with my geekiness).

Let's see, that leaves "Intelligence" and "Rank". Hmm. "Intelligence" kind of overlaps with what i had to say about "Strength" and "Skill", and maybe "Speed"... Well, i never said it was a perfect metaphor, just one i found interesting.

"Rank", of course, is all about how you stack up against your fellows.

i wonder if my "Rank" is less like Bumblebee than Starscream. :-D

So! Is the thread derailed yet?

"Astrotrain! Transform and get us out of here! Skywarp: factor nine!"

It was the mid-90's, I didn't know i could find SPECIFICS on the intarwebs. The first site we got was pics from Botcon '95, and that was enough to keep me dreaming til we had our own computer c. 1999. Then I found out what pretender Groudbreaker looked like. What? I only owned 4 pretender shells til I met Trance!

As for the brass-fastener enterprise, I also made a ToS Enterprise out of two pie plates, three paper tubes (paper towel for the center, cut wrapping paper tube for the nacelles), lotsa tinfoil, sequins, and a scotch tape reel.

I also made two transformable (no brass fasteners this time) fan characters out of paper and tape. I should totally archive those bad boys :P Maybe my Enterprise former is with them...

Also, your Geek Rank just jumped 2 points for making that analogy.
