Selling G1 Collection, TFL quote and questions/opinions

Post by WhatReallyGoesOn »

Hi guys, I recently got a TFL quote for my G1 collection and wanted other thoughts and opinions, or offers. The prices listed at right are avg TFL complete (or close) item sale prices. Here is the list:

- Autobots

1) Powermaster Optimus Prime (complete) $50
2) Targetmaster Blurr (no targetmaster haywire accessory) $75
3) Pretender Cloudburst (figures and only helmet accessory) $35
4) Pretender Crossblades (complete except Wing accessory) $100
5) Pretender Grimlock (complete except Laser/Tail accessory) $35
6) G1 Deluxe Vehicle Whirl (figure only, no accessories) $70

- Decepticons

1) Powermaster Dreadwind (complete) $120
2) Powermaster Doubledealer (Complete except Engine Holder) $70
3) Headmaster Mindwipe (complete) $80
4) Headmaster Fangry (complete) $80
5) Pretender Roadblock (complete except 1 laser) $85
6) Micromaster Erector (complete) $12
7) Micromaster Flattop (missing Laser Cannons) $12
8) Micromaster Race Car Patrol (2 of 4 - Swindler and Freewheeler) $12

I also included others:

1) GoBots Boulder Good Rock Lords (figure only) $5
2) Gobots Warpath Super Renegade (figure only) $?

With all above items included, the TFL offer from Matt was $275. With the avg TFL complete (or close) sale prices coming out to nearly $850, is it so bad to expect a higher offer? I understand every item isn't complete, but I would think somewhere around $500 would still provide a reasonable profit margin for TFL...

Thoughts/Opinions/Offers?

Thanks,

Robertq

It is a nice collection, but if I may...

I just sold a near complete Crossblades for $65
Figure only Whirl isn't going to be anywhere near $70, plus you said he didn't have the head antenna.
Roadblock, it's possible, but I got very little detail from you regarding the gold plastic guy...if Whirl has no head antenna, I gotta play a bit conservative, as the gold plastic guy is 1000x more fragile.
The engine holder for Doubledealer happens to be the most valuable part.
2 micromasters aren't going to go for $12
TM Blurr figure only maybe I could sell for $15
Cloudburst figure only + helmet not much more than $15
The rest, yes, that's what my final sale price *could* potentially be.
But people negotiate, Paypal takes a cut, and of course, my time and effort counts for something :)
Happy to negotiate, but just wanted to make some things clear when it comes to value complete vs value not-so-complete. I think the guys on here will back me up ;)

Hello and welcome to TFL!
Sorry to burst your bubble, WhatReallyGoesOn, I do believe that trance is right in that your prices seem to be a bit too optimistic.

As for your pictures; it appears as if they're linked from your personal google mail account, and they can therefore not be viewed by anyone other than you. Perhaps you can upload them to photobucket or a similar image hosting website?

You also have to understand most of the toys listed will only appeal to "niche" G1 collectors. I'm a G1 collector myself and have all the toys that appeared in the 80's cartoon but stuff like Pretenders or Micromasters (Countdown likes 'em) never appealed to me. Whirl would be the fastest sell because the Wreckers are a hot commodity right now.

Now. If you were to create a sales thread on here they might sell there for what you think they're worth or an agreement you can come to with the potential buyer. I might even be interested in Dreadwind and Doubledealer if the price is right.

Welcome to TFL, by the way! 8)

Let me fix that for you.

Unfortunately, I have all of the US Micromasters that were released already (except for 2 accessories) - Or, I would be interested.

I have always found Matt (aka - Trance) to be very fair in his pricing. And, like Roadbuster said there are niche collectors out there who would pay the prices you want (like me with micromasters, lol ), but sadly there aren't enough of us out there who'll pay full price or close to full price. It can be very difficult to get what we think an item is worth, compared to what an item may realistically be selling for (keeping in mind the close prices you see on TFL are negotiable. It is likely that many of the auctions close for less than actually listed.

Hope my rambling helps.

Thanks for the welcomes! Right now anything is up in the air, I'm willing to take individual or lot offers. I will post a For Sale thread soon.

Ok. Don't make a thread though. For sale threads aren't allowed on this forum and it'll just get locked. What you'll need to do is make a reply to this thread and then just edit that post to keep it updated on what's sold or if anything new is listed. Great to have you here at TFL!
