Years you have been collecting

Name the years you started collecting Transformers to the current.

For me:

1984-1988 I remember Double Dealer or Beast Box and Squalk Talk were the last for me for a while until Beast Wars. I remember buying both those guys. Then I discovered girls

Back on track: 1996-2009 and beyond.

That makes a total of 18 years so far.

All the toys u see in my collection were obtained in a space of 6 years from now back 6 years only

I think I've done pretty well... But have no money anymore . lol

Honestly my first purchase was a Brave Maximus in April of this year.

I knew it would open a floodgate of collecting figures so I never even tempted myself to start a collection prior.

1988, i was two. Got Skalor and Quickmix new off the shelves, and mostly my collection grew through garage sales until G2. By then my parents knew i was serious and had to have EVERYTHING.

21 years later, I'm still working on that one.

Also, I'm proud to have never gone on hiatus... I didn't skip series or sell off and rebuy, or anything silly like that. I've been right here, hard at it for 21 years straight. FTW!

my first tf was a new of the shelf sludge back in 1985 then i got them until about 1990
then i started collecting * seriously * in 2002 when i found the big box that was full of the ones i had back then up in the attic at my parents house

now 7 years on im poorer but happier

My first Tf was Dead End of the stunticons. That was in 1985 I was in High School. After HS I started working and started to buy them on my own. I kept my best ones at my Mom's apartment. Sadly she had a terrible fire and I lost most of them. I was able to replace some of them but the older ones I can't replace they're too expensive

Anyway Mom and little bro are fine. But that was my first Tf Dead End. I still have him.

F18Starscream - I'm glad you, your brother and mother were fine. Must have been terrible.

I don't remember exactly when I started collecting, but it must have been around the latter part of the 80's. 86-87 maybe. Back then me and my family always went to Norway during our summer vacations/holidays, and I remember getting Transformers there. Fireflight was one of them.

I sort of took a break when Beast Wars came out since back then I wasn't too fond of the castings. However, every time I found Transformers at flea markets, garage sales and such I always picked them up. I just didn't get any from stores. It wasn't until the first live action movie came out that I started actively collecting again ...and ended up here!

Well, It must have been back in the late 80's that I remember holding my G1 Thrust and Lazerbeak while sitting a foot away from the TV watching Transformers toons in my caca spiderman underoos.....

I wasnt really fortunate enough to have more Transformers when i was growing up, (parents had it pretty rough) but I loved my seeker jet and Lazerbeak like no other.

Anyway, I guess i kinda ended up forgetting all about Transformers since i couldnt get any anyway when i was a kid, until just the other week when i happened upon a random auction on Ebay.

That night i went buck wild and bought a Reissue 22 Starscream new in a box, a Japanese G1 Soundwave, a LAZERBEAK, a Buzzsaw, a Ramhorn, a Ravage, a Jap G1 Skywarp and Thundercracker, a Grimlock, and even a Frankenstein Macross/G1 Jetfire. Now that i can afford them, theres no holding me back!

So now, Im pretty new at this, and am learning the value of these toys the hard way... Ive spent 100's and 100's of dollars over the last couple weeks on transformers, withought even knowing if i was getting a good deal or not. Too late to worry though, and i think i love my transformers regardless. I think i already love them more than my own kids. They cant even pose cool or nothing. They just sit there eating ice cream all day long and pick their nosses. Wheres the ZAZZ in that!?

So yep. Late is as good a time as any to start collecting right.

How can you love a piece of plastic more then your own kids, your own flesh and blood? Something's not right there...

My first was Buzzsaw march of this year. I always wanted the cassettes growing up but never got instead TMNT took over then X-MEN. As soon as I got home from the flea market I started bidding on soundwave. Then a couples months lots of money and fusscussions with my wife I have covered my dresser. Transformers were always my favorite and I think really led me to my career in mechanical engineering.

Is that "For The Win!" or "F the World!"? Just curious.

Me, I collected from 1983 (Diaclone) until they started the Pretender line (1988). We couldn't afford it, but I had tons of Transformers then, since my Mom worked at AAFES and it was the glory days of toy departments. There was enough product on the shelves so that there was still good stuff left when they went on clearance, and I always got first pick. My parents also utilized Transformers to bribe me and avoid some of the more annoying parental duties (like Trick or Treating when Dad works swing shift and Mom pulls doubles during the day. That was worth 3 Insecticons (clearance, of course!) Bless their hearts! (In the NON-southern way).

Then I started up again in college circa 2003... but only started getting crazy with it in 2006 or so (since that's when I started making money).

To be honest i've been collecting toys and figures since the mid 80's when i was young G.I.Joe, Thundercats, Batman, Centurions and Transformers. I took a break for a while lol then started again with Transformers when Beast Wars started and still collecting.
