Identify Your Toys and Accessories!

Post by Time Traveller »

Welcome to Transformerland! You have found the best place on the internet to identify your action figures and their parts.
Our powerful Toy Identification Utility can help you ID any of 10,000 action figures, or over 13,000 parts - WITHOUT having to look through them all! Simply select the main color (whatever covers more of the figure or piece than any other), and the type (for transforming toys, this is the thing that it turns into). You should be down to only a short page or two of results already! Now just click the picture that looks like your item, and you'll see all the information about the toy!

We also have a toyline narrow-down tool that allows you to include or exclude different toylines/brands if you have some idea what your figure or part is from. This can be especially helpful if you have some figures, since they're easy to generalize. Here's a quick guide to help you narrow down your figures' toyline:

IS a robot:
  • CAN transform or assemble:
    • Brave Series (only sold in Japan)
    • Diaclone/Diakron/Kronoform (rare outside Japan)
    • GoBots
    • GoDaiKin/Shogun Warriors
    • Select Convertors
    • Webdiver (only sold in Japan)
  • It CANNOT transform or assemble:
    • Bravestarr (one, 8" tall)
    • Captain Power (a few, 4" tall)
    • MOTU (a couple, 5-6" tall)
    • Robo Force (large suction cup on bottom, bendy arms)
    • StarCom (magnets in feet, 2" tall)
    • Starriors (little gold driver in head, wind-up feature, 5-6" tall)
    • Star Wars (several, 3-4" tall)
    • TMNT (a couple, 5-6" tall)
IS NOT a robot:
  • 1" tall:
    • Diaclone/Diakron/Kronoform (rare outside Japan, usually have magnets or metal cubes on feet)
  • 2" tall:
    • Battle Beasts (anthropomorphic animals in sci-fi armor, jointed shoulders)
    • MASK (jointed neck, shoulders, hips, knees)
    • StarCom (jointed neck, shoulders, hips, knees, magnets in feet)
    • Wheeled Warriors (jointed shoulders and hips, brown uniforms)
  • 3 3/4" - 4" tall:
    • Captain Power (sci-fi themed with jointed neck, shoulders, elbow, hips, knees)
    • Dungeons & Dragons (medieval fantasy)
    • G.I. Joe (very articulated at neck, shoulders, elbow, waist, hips, knees)
    • Star Wars (jointed neck, shoulders, knees)
  • 5-6" tall:
    • MOTU (extremely muscular, jointed head and shoulders, rubber jointed hips)
    • Power Lords (highly varied, many strange alien body forms)
    • Silverhawks (humans with chrome bodies or monsters, spring-loaded action features, jointed neck, shoulders, and hips)
    • TMNT (mostly anthropomorphic animals, cartoonish, jointed neck, shoulders, hips)
    • Visionaries (men in brightly colored sci-fi armor, joints like G.I. Joes, but larger)
  • 7-8" tall:
    • Bravestarr (wild west themed, some monsters, jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees)
    • Centurions (sci-fi themed, many sockets all over body for weapons, jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees)
    • ThunderCats (fairly simple, many animalistic, may have a button on back to activate attack feature, jointed neck, shoulders, hips)
By using these narrow-downs, you can quickly categorize an entire collection, and quickly identify any of the most popular action figure toys from the 1980s and beyond!

Hi,

Did Hasbro stamp their transformers with the actual production year on the toy? I have a green beachcomber with Dunlop wheels, orange legs and gray body. The lookup tool shows release year in the nineties but 1984 is stamped on the left arm. Just curious if they only stamped when Hasbro started production on the transformer line? Thanks for the help.

Great question! The answer is NO, the date on the figure almost never matches the year of release. The date is typically the date of copyright - some figures show a date as old as 1974, but this indicates the date of copyright for Takara's Microman series, though no Transformers designs were designed or released that year.

The 1984 on your green Beachcomber indicates his design and copyright date of 1984, though the figure was first sold in 1985, and your green one was sold in 1993 as Generation 2 Beachcomber!
