How do YOU display?

Post by GC Brad »

Hey all!

New user here, greetings. = )

Taking some time to revise my display shelves, wondering what y'all do for your own setups?

Context: I had my collection in cardboard boxes and stored in a facility for around 20 years while I was moving around for work or living in places where I didn't have any space. Now that the missus and I have settled down, I finally have a bit of room to put things on shelves, set up some cabinets, and so on. I was just happy to have ANYTHING up at first, so I sort of threw stuff on shelves with little rhyme or reason. However, I'm running out of space now and I have to be a bit more tactical about what stays and what goes back into a box.

At the moment, my current plan is to group my TFs (at first) by TV series. Beast Wars is my fave, so I've got the full run there, and Beast Machines is a small number of toys if you only count those who appeared in the show, so that's quick.

Gonna maybe do a Prime display with the TV characters, but beyond that I'm a little aimless...

So how do you show off your TFs?

By toy series? TV-show characters? Grouped by alt mode? Just a bunch of random faves?

LMK what your display style is!

Mornin!
Always been the same since I was a kid - display by-team. I only have G1 so even easier for me. I love the city base setups, Metro on one side and Tryp on the other. I like to stock the bases with mini or reasonably-smaller sized bots so it looks realistic. Everyone else has their own shelves on the appropriate team side.
All my combiners are combined and ready to rock, except for the Stunticons, they're my fave and are always in car-mode in a showdown against Optimus and the boys.
Finally, keeping true to the show, Omega has his own separate silo'd space.

Welcome to the forums happy to have you

As for how I display I currently display both by team and faction

(EX: One for Autobot & Maximal one for the cons)

If I had more shelves, I would prefer to have them separated by continuity and have them in various poses (talking battle etc) maybe even a diorama in the background.

Hope these options help if you’re still deciding. I wish I can show you mine but for whatever reason the forums claims my photos are too big even though they’re iphone photos 😅

I have at the moment, one bookcase that is used to display my CHUG collection. The top half is Autobot and Maximals figures, the bottom are Decepticons/Predacons.

And then on top of the bookcase are my small collection of MP figures.

But the top shelf of the bookcase are primary the G1 cartoon cast pre 86 movie, and then the second shelf is everything else post 86 movie and the maximals.

As another poster noted, I really don't have a lot of space to display collectibles, so it's all mostly in boxes.

The few items I do have out are loose complete, and in an old curio (which you've all seen) and I switch items out every once in awhile when I'm tired of something, or worried about damage. It's easy to switch things out from storage.

I buy Zoloworld, Figure Defender, and Action Force protectors for carded figures, but for the boxed Transformers and other items that no other company manufactures protection for, I go to Katana Collectibles.

https://katanacollectibles.com/

This is the page for Transformers stuff alone, over 700 protectors from G-1 on.

https://katanacollectibles.com/search.p ... on=product

I've bought tons of stuff from them, and everything is great! (even provided a few images for his store so people can see items the protectors fit  )

They seldom make mistakes, but once I purchased protectors where the dimensions were incorrect on an already existing protector. My order was close to a hundred fifty-dollars, but not only did the owner send me the revised protectors with proper dimensions, they also shipped them for free and allowed me to keep the old ones which I re-purposed.

They're based in Irvine, California, and they manufacture custom protectors for pretty much any action figure, boxed vehicle, DVD's, standard VHS tape, "rental" box VHS tapes (like F.H.E./Warner Brothers-Karl Lorimar), boxed media sets, video games etc. If you send the owner your dimensions (I send with a picture of the item with a ruler showing dimensions) he will make it for you. You can get glue construction or tab construction (I prefer tab) with three different types of fasteners. The more you purchase, the better deal you get on the items.

All protectors come with a plastic film on the protector on both sides to retard scratching during shipment and it peels off easy. (fun too)

Anyway, I don't know if you all know about this guy, but if you're looking for an affordable protector that displays great, will protect your boxes from dust, shelf wear and minor bump ups while still allowing easy access to your collectible without buying an expensive acrylic case, you might want to check them out.
