STARS.... i almost died in not having seen your long posts in a while. very intuitive post, though. yes. having the alternators in your hands really increases their enjoyability. as a matter of fact, if anyone other than me reaches 150 posts, i made alternator a rank at that level. as for the "white prime" mode, i found a very cool concept art for white prime in simon furman's 'ultimate guide.' i'll scan it in or find it online. oh, wait... HA! GOT IT! simon furman's ultimate guide (general info: simon furman spearheaded the g1 comic series) names FRENZY BLUE. that's what i support anyway. so. er... i was going somewhere with this.
good to have you back, commando.

I actually never really put that much thought into Rumble vs. frenzy, but it is an interesting discussion point. hmm.

anyways, my vote goes to the datsun bros. - bluestreak, prowl, and smokescreen. they look magnificent in alternate mode, and their robot mode is highly detailed - individual legs, torso, chest, head, fists, arms, as well as shoulder, elbow and fist joints for super poseability. i also always loved the look of the two missle launchers on the shoulders.

Optimus Prime

Post by megaprime »

Optimus Prime.
His transformation might be one of the simplest, but it's the best. The whole transformation process and the design of the toy are loyal to the original character.
The size is just right, not like ridiculous Blaster or some super tiny robots. In addition, the materials are good.
He looks awesome in both robot mode and trailer truck mode, not like Ultra Magnus who looks awkward in robot mode.
OP, he is the best!

I would go with the Decepticon Triple Changers, Astrotrain and Blitzwing. They both had cool colors, Astrotrain had two seldom used alt modes, and they convincingly portrayed all three of their modes, unlike other 'bots like the 6 changers, from Quickswitch to RID Megs/Galvy. To me, three is the most you can do for a transformer. Anything more, and you're just pushing it and compromising the integrity of the piece as a whole. And that's no disrespect to the Autobot Triple Changers or Octane: I've just never owned them.

Great!

True. Triple Changers are awesome! More importantly, the toy designers were able to create cool triple changer toys for real, which was incredible.
I haven't got Astrotrain and Blitzwing yet, but I know the designs of them have received a lot of praises.

astrotrain rocks. you gotta get his rifle though, it's freakin huge, and it's awesome, i got mine from trance in my last shipment. blitzie is good, but i cannot find his turret for the life of me. i have too many turretless blitzwings. he is still cool though. as for the autobot triplechangers, i'm a little unimpressed by broadside, then again mine's missing a bunch of stuff. i haven't got a springer, but he looks like he kicks ass. sandstorm is excellent, though the chopper mode is a teensy bit awkward. octane is one of my favourite triples.
as much as quickswitch sucks, i still stand that sixshot gracefully pulls it off, and is thusly cool.

Yeah, see, I've never played with a Sixshot. The pics in the store (esp. military mode and beast mode) looked kinda lame. But he seems to have a cult following. Have you ever read Cliffjumper's TF:Aftermath series? It's a fanfic set after Marvel #80 where SixShot is like the main villan. It's pretty cool.

But as far as toys go, give me Blitzy and Astrotrain anyday. I'm gonna be ALL OVER that Takara Astrotrain B&W reissue.

Good News!

Post by megaprime »

Good News!
My brothers on Transformerland! I just got my Springer the very first time yesterday. He is complete with weapons, the joints are tight, and there's very little wear.
This vintage G1 Transformer definitely rocks! I think he is just a little bit small. I have Kup and Blurr also, and I didn't expect the toy of Springer is actually smaller than those two.
Any way, just want to share the excitement with you guys.

springer is smaller? that's odd. i've still gotta get me one.
i was thinking about action masters last night, and i decided something.
the reason they didn't cut it for coolness wasn't so much that they didn't transform, but that even as action figures they lacked posability, detail, and styling. i think a good idea would be a series of action figures, probably twelve inch, that resemble the characters in robot form, probably from the movie, so that they looked as sleek and seemless in robot mode as they do as animated humanoids. plus super-poseability, so you could do cool dioramas of scenes. this way you could also see them properly scaled. springer tall and beefy, kup shorter but stoutly built, etc.... i think if they did enough effort sculpting this could be an excellent idea.
who's with me? word up.

Springer is fairly small

Post by megaprime »

I had Wreck Gar, Hot Rod, Blurr, Kup, and Springer (Transformers the Movie crew) stand together and just realized Springer looks prominently smaller than others while the rest of them have almost the same size and look just fine in terms of scale. Springer is supposed to be a beefy soldier who is stronger than all the people mentioned above, but the toy of Springer is quite small.
You will witness it when you have your Springer. 8)

Normally I would say that it doesn't sound like a good idea and anything smelling of Action Masters needs to be trashed, but because of the movie, they're going to need as much Transformers crap as they can get. And it WOULD be cool to get hyper stylized posable robots.

I have two figures which I think are the best as design: Optimus Prime and Soundwave. Both are very accurate in the transformed mode, and cool in robot mode. It is hard to me to choose between them, but for what itr meant to me as a kid and since I'm mostly a car fanatic, I think that my first chice is the old Op. Besides it was he Transformer I wanted the most in my childhood.

I have to add....To both of my nominated Transfomers, on their favor, that they are way more poseable than any other Transformer on their era. I also like the cars and seekers, but they are like playing with a (cool) brick in robot mode. At the most you can swing their arms. Op and Soundwave can move their legs, bend their knees and more...You all have seen how cool looks Soundwave with Buzzsaw on its arm or Optimus walking with the gun in front. Targeting the foe. One shall fall, one shall stand. Sweet.

I also say that I really loathe Springer. At one point I got three and I got rid of all. I just don't like it, as it was the first Tranformer I bought when I restarted collecting in 2001 (and I got ripped off). Another brick, but you get no cool car or helicopter nor robot. So I let it rot.

Springer sucks, huh? Hm. Well. that definetly changes my view. I just bought a Sandstorm for about 24 dollars, so hopefully that'll turn out better.

I completely agree with you on the point Optimus Prime and Soundwave are two of the best G1 Transformers toys ever.
However, I just cannot figure out why you loathe Springer so much, since currently it's one of the rarest and most expensive vintage Transformers in the market. Come to think about it, it's not just about rareness, it's actually more about the design. For instance, Broadside, Sandstorm, and even Octane all are rare G1 Transformers, and they are all triple changers, but the market value of any of them is not that high. On the other hand, Springer is so popular not just because he is a core character in the story and he is a triple changer. More importantly, Transformers fans have acknowledged the toy design of Springer, which is the ultimate reason for its success.
Personally, I love the design of Springer, and I think the toy rocks! The colour, the materials, the transformation, all are good. I think the only problem is it's a little bit small. If people say the car mode of Springer is not as cool as Tracks, the robot mode is not as cool as Optimus Prime, at least I think the helicopter is already cool enough, and I would say it's the coolest helicopter of all Transformers.
Anyway, different people have different tastes and opinions.
I used to think Ironhide was the worst, but I stopped blaming the toy design when I realized actually the toy production was before the creation of the comics and cartoon.

It's more of an emotional thing between Springer and me. I don't have any concerns regarding its size by the way. I prefer small sized Transformers, I think Galvatron looks somewhat like a washing machine. Ironhide it's on my taste when I look at it separate from the cartoons. When I was a kid it was disappointing, as Ironhide was my favorite character on the show.

I think that Transformers in small scale are amazing. Take a look at Powerglide. It is greatly detailed.

Hmmm, I always liked Galvatron. I thought he was very representative of his movie incarnation and it was cool how they made his lights make up. Is there any way to make his orange cannon attach to his arm in robot mode? I always hated that you couldn't do it

Shockwave is a cool and posable TF, and Metroplex isn't bad either, especially with a few WSTs for effect.

However, I'm shocked that no one has mentioned the best G1 toy of all - JETFIRE!! He's ultra-poseable for the time, has a far cooler alt mode than Soundwave, lots of armour and a huge gun, and just looks awesome!
