My family, on the other hand, just rolls their eyes at me whenever I get something new for my collection.

Right there with you on that. Not only on TFs/action figures, but I also get the stale "comic books are for kids" lecture frequently.

OH! I take exception with that and the people who say it!

Comic books be it golden, silver or current age have some of the most thought provoking and important story lines! I suggest that you buy your naysayers the trade of "Civil War" or let them read some of the old silver age Silver Surfer/Fantastic four books and see if they think that is just for kids!

The thing that irks me is that "Adults" who won't pick up a comic book to read to save their lives will sit and read some slop Danielle Steele has thrown together.

As far as collecting goes, my mother and father have always been collectors so they understood and tolerated my collections as a child and impressed the importance of taking care of the toys, comics, whatever I had.

My husband however is really fickle about my collecting.

It helps tremendously that he collects M.A.S.K. and G.I.Joe toys, so at least he understands the attractions I have to these toys.

He loves my Transformers and petroliana stuff but I can't get him to wrap his heart around the Thundercats. After 15 years of trying its looking like he won't. He hates that collection and he always has something badish to say when I buy big ticket items related to it.

But.........

I am lucky to have him because he loves me even though he knows me and at least he tolerates the stuff I love! I don't think anyone could ask for more.

Believe me, Roar, I feel your pain. People hear the words "comic book" and they automatically have visions of Superman and 60s Adam West with his trusty "Bat Anti-Shark Spray" or something equally ridiculous. These are people that will never know the brilliance of stuff like Sandman or Watchmen--I've tried to explain until my face was blue, and I've tried to persuade others to actually give it a shot and READ something before judging it, but you just can't crack closed minds...

i dont have another half to contend with anymore...but when i did she thought it was all childish nonsence...my new room mate loves TFs so he loves my toys...its hard stopping him from wanting to open the unopened ones though...i'll stab him in the night if he does..haha

Wellllll....I'm sure she spent that much in a long space of time not like all at once. Its easy to get carried away too as we all know when we love something!

I was just going to buy Ultimate Bumblebee and a few of the classics toys and my just recent Transformer collection (Classics, Masterpiece, and 2007 Movie) has blossomed into an over $400.00 alone preposition.

Actually the more time she spends scrapbooking the less time she'll have to take notice of what you're buying! j/k

Actually.....scrapbooking would appeal to my meticulous nature and I like the little scrapbooking rubber stamps and stuff....especially if you can buy them with kittens and bad words on them.

Seriously, though, my collection is rather small. When it comes to tf's I only am buying the classics series at the moment, and only the deluxe/voyager sized ones.

At the moment I am working on the GI Joe 25th anniversary series, but only the characters that I liked as a kid. Characters like Beachhead and Scrapmetal are staying on the shelves in the store. As long as I keep it under $50-$75 a month, she is okay with it. She does roll her eyes a bit, at times, but there are so many worse things I could be into.

My boyfriend is pretty tolerant of them all and likes a few (Starscream) so it's to the point where he watches me play with my new ones and listens to me go on and on about them....... but basically it's my money, so too bad if he doesn't like them, HA!

although I HAVE gotten the "why do you need 3 of the same guy???" question a few times now.... and there's NO WAY he'll wake up with me to watch TF: animated on Saturday mornings, lol

just yesterday he said "I'm not into them like you, but I understand and appriciate your enthusiasm for this hobby...."
