Looking for a TF G1 toy expert...

Post by WZLbot »

No one seems to respond to any of my posts... *sigh*

But here, I have some fun questions that I figure a few of you might know some more about than me.

I recently started collecting figures again (G1 only) and I was wondering:

1)I have two U. Magnus heads. One has a silver face, the other is pure blue. What gives?
2)I have the big red rockets that go on Jetfire's back, but I have no idea how to attach them. Any clues?
3) My Ravage is brown instead of black. It was aquired from someone elses collection, did they just leave it out in the sun or is this a legitimate rare item like CliffBee and BumbleJumper?
4)Okay, final question: has anyone here ever successfully opened up Blaster (he has ACTUAL screws that I can take out) and fixed his tape deck so it opens and closes properly?

Thankyouz,

The multiple Ultra Magnus heads I cannot explain. I have seen them though.

Jetfire's red rockets actually connect to anther red piece. Go here http://www.transformerland.com/store/sh ... &id=138524 The piece is the red square underneath the large black gun. This square piece then connects over the folded upward tail fin.

Your Ravage might be either from the "Microman" series wich is before they became Transformers, or it could be a bootleg. What is the date printed on it?

I will attempt to fix my Blaster and see what I come up with. I never put much thought into fixing him. I hate that darn door. There needs to be a bigger catch for it.

Ok here is what I came up with for Blaster.

Lay Blaster face down on a surface.
Remove the 5 screws in the back.
Once the back is removed, all the other parts are vernerable to seperate from the body so be careful.
In the center of the back you should see a metal wire wrapped around a screw.
That metal wire is what is pushing the door open constantly.
Go ahead and remove that screw and put Blaster back together.
Good luck

Hope this helps :)

ive fixed a couple of blasters so far by changing out springs. as for the wire that pushes the door open, you should be able to bend it outwards more so when you put it back together the eject button should kick it open.

The deal with the 2 magnus heads (there are actually 3 versions that I know of) is that Magnus was released a few times. The all-rubber wheel variant came with a fully painted Magnus head. The all-plastic wheel variant came with an all-blue unpainted Magnus head. One rare version which combined rubber and plastic wheels for the cab and trailer had a half-painted Magnus head.

Fixing Blaster's tapedeck is kinda tricky. The mechanism is a poor design. The play and stop buttons should work as they normally do in a regular tape deck, and the eject button should work effortlessly. Like 2 of the over 50 or so Blaster's I've had had perfect tape decks.

I find that the best solution is to loosen the 5 screws Galvatron is talking about. The tricky part is finding the right amount and combination of resistance distributed among the 5 different screws...mostly trial and error. Play with it, see if it helps!

Hey guys, sorry to get in on this fray late, esp. since i love fixing tf's; but i've been out a few days on account of an emergency heart surgery. I've fixed a couple blasters, and i've noted that sometimes the pieces in there can get clogged up with just a bit of dust. sometimes if you clean the parts and reinstall them (in the right order, which i remember being tricky) it will work great. If the above tips don't work, post, and i'll open up my armless spare blaster and go through any other needed fixes with you. Good luck!

Thanks for the help guys! I'm going to try to fix him over the weekend. Blaster was always my favorite when I was a kid.

Yeah, I don't have that backpack looking part of Jetfire, so it looks like he's not going to be fully decked out in his armor.

It's weird how many re-releases they had of every figure and the inconsistencies. Magnus' unpainted head is really sad looking to me.

Sorry to hear about the emergency surgery Time!

erm, invoking mod privelages to speak off topic... yes, i had a catheter surgery to remove a problem bit of heart tissue that i've known about for years, when it unexpectedly caused me to go into atrial fibrillation, a dangerous heart rhythm where there is no rhythm. should such a fibrillation become ventricular, it can be deadly.

but, i've got another lease on life, and the problem should be permanently cured.

sorry to disappoint, but it's not time for me to pass on the matrix yet ;)

Mmm... Ben? I didn't know about your surgery, good to know it went well.

Going to what's left on the questions: You have to check the copyright stamp on your Ravage, as there are many knockoffs, and some doubtful ones which don't have it at all (mine doesn't have any markings, but I reckon it's authentic). Pictures would help to give an opinion.

The rubsign on Hook should be below the driver's window. The Devastator giftset was released in the US, so it should have a rubsign, if the giftset you have is the US version. Is everything only in English on the box?

Well I don't know where my Hook came from exactly. I lost my Hook as a child to the labrador retriever so I replaced it later in life. I don't have a box :( so I couldn't tell you about its language printing.

Thank you for the information! I guess I could buy junker 'Cons and replace my G-1 rubbies that have gotten gone.

My Long Haul, Scrapper, Mixmaster and Scavenger came on cards instead of the big giftset when I bought them new and they do have the rubsigns on them. I wondered if the Constructicons had the rubbies on them in the giftset since I thought perhaps they might have come a bit earlier than the carded ones.

I suppose since the Constructicons were in the second wave :?: they of course would be rub signed.

I've always wondered why kids took the rubsigns off because they're pretty cool.

Of course why do kids do anything they do? :?

Sometimes the rubsigns have come off on their own, not to mention with and without rubsign variants, as i think was addressed here. lastly, reprolabels sells rubsigns by the sheet! might be easier than trying to transfer?

Heh, thanks. I'm two years into said new lease, and while some things have changed a lot, certain parts have gotten much better. *scoots closer to Minerva*
