Just FYI, Voltron is another sticky wicket purchase, with a huge price range. There were A TON of good quality knockoffs of it, back in the day. Off the top of my head, the most expensive ones should have little stickers with Japanese writing on them. Then there's matchbox stamped for slightly less money, then a slew of different knockoffs for somewhere between 25-50% of the original Japanese's price. If anyone *really* needs to know, I can look up what the exact stamping/variations are if you're hunting for originals.

Cool pics SentinelPrime
!
When I was a child at a birthday I received from my uncles the black lion.I didn't tell them but I'd have preferred G1 Transformers...I didn't like Voltron
!!!
If we consider only good thing, black lion was a big and resistant toy so it wasn't all that bad.
Minerva, also your collection is more and more interesting..

Oh you lucky dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SentinelPrime wrote:2) 80's Diecast Lion Voltron Combiner (I'm NOT a big Voltron fan, but I thought this combiner was pretty cool looking!)
Those sets are so rare loose looking as good as they do! The tails are still on the Yellow and Blue lions and the wings are in place!!!!
What a wonderful haul, Sentinel!!!! I wish I still had my set! Buffy our labarador retriever chewed them up.
Do the pull back motors still work by any chance?
I'll do some digging around upstairs........ I found the sword that went to my set a year ago if I can find it I'll send it to you!

Ergh. Me and my big mouth. All of the variations will take a VERY long time, and require a new thread.
The short form?
If you're a discerning Voltron connoisseur, you want stickers that say "GB-36 Made in Japan". ANYthing else will be of lesser quality. If it has stickers that say "Made in Taiwan", then most likely you have a Matchbox set... and may have one of the rare-ish sets recalled due to high lead content (don't lick them!).
Oh, and in general, if you see a Voltron with ANY accessory other than a sword, it's a good bet that it's knockoff. US Voltron sets didn't come with accessories. You *could* buy the sword separately.
Barring the stickers, there's a TON of variations amogst them all that will probably take at least 2 pages and 2 hours of typing to try to differentiate.
