Perceptor's Scope

Post by Countdown »

What is the easiest way to slide the turquoise colored connector piece of the scope off? There is a thin metal pin holding it on. If I took a pair of needle noses could i pull that pin out or is there a better way to do it?

Thanks for any help on this!

I'm at work, so I don't have a Scope handy... from memory:

Isn't that black scope connector part two-piece, with screws? If you undo those screws and separate it, does it free the pin and blue connector? Or am I way off here?

On the off-chance that I am way off, than this is probably a tap pin that you need to be careful with. IF this is the case, you should be able to see both ends of the metal pin. ONE end will have little burrs on it that prevent it from slipping (which you probably can't see). Your job will be to figure out which end it is... then ever so carefully tap out the pin using something of a slightly smaller diamater than the pin, and a little hammer or something. (So you'll be tapping on the OPPOSITE side of the burrs).

How to you figure out which side has burrs, you ask? By tapping gently. If it moves, you're probably hitting the correct side. If it doesn't, you are probably driving the burrs in deeper.

EDIT: To add a link, with pictures of the pin tapping process and remove my mention of the soldering technique, since it's really not going to help in this case.

The black piece can be unscrewed and removed from the scope itself, but it doesn't seem to assist in removing the turquoise piece or metal pin.

The black piece only has one hole on one side so I can't tap it out. I can fit a tiny flathead screwdriver in a hole above the pin. and try to scrape the pin along, but it isn't moving any time soon.

Thanks for adding your edit! I bet that link will help!!

Let me know if you figure it out... I honestly can't remember without looking at my various Perceptor scopes. I remember that I have several in various state of repair. And some of them have the black connector in two pieces. How you separate those two pieces is what I can't quite remember.

So... you tried tapping on BOTH sides, and it's not budging either way? Or just moving *really* slowly?

Once you're positive that you're not tapping against the force of the burrs, you *should* be able to tap away until you get enough out to get a hold of the pin. If you can't easily pull the pin out at that point, that's when the aforementioned (and then removed) soldering technique could help.

Also, here's a link that describes the "cold soldering" gun, and how it works (which is pretty essential to using it properly). IIRC, mine was pretty cheap. $20 or so.

The pin is into a "dead end". I don't see a smooth way to slide it out, without chopping part of the black piece.

I have got a spare scope and it is in the same condition as yours. It still attaches to Perceptor with no problems, so if you need...

Ugh. I forgot again :(. I'm planning on doing some more part sorting tonight, so *hopefully* I'll remember about this dilemma when I get home this time!

No, I am putting it on the back burner for now. Will work on it later.

I was going to see about having a new part molded. Been busy lately. I hope to have him fixed soon. It just eats me alive to have a broken transformer (that is a sin right?)
