In the absence of Mirage Boxes..

Post by Sixshot »

I quoted myself from the "How much should u pay for" topic, since it seemed appropriate to start a new thread about this and to see if everyone can offer a myriad of sites that offer this service
That reminds me, anybody know a website or ebay seller that makes customized G1 boxes or just plain sells G1 boxes(with or without the inserts)? I ask because it seems that Mirage Boxes, which was my main source is either out of business or changed his site to an indisclosed place! Any help would be greatly appreciated, Wink

Mirages boxes is gone for good it seems. I remember him sayin that there were alot of personal issues, so it was unlikely he would be returning. That was the only place to get old boxes for TFs that I know of.

Damn, his site was awesome, :x ! If anyone comes across a site like this, PLEASE POST HERE! I got that customized Doublespy/Decepticon Clones box from him and it was awesome! It houses those particular figures to this day,

I have some half finished mockups that I keep meaning to complete.

What are the legalities of selling replica boxes? I've seen mirage boxes have 'mirage boxes' instead of 'transformers'. I've never bought one so I dont know how they actually look when they arrive!!

Would changing a few details, i.e grid size etc be enough, or are there still legal issues?

I wouldn't count Mirage's boxes down for the count quite yet... he's started making replica bubble inserts now, after all...

If you're using their art, you're stealing their Trademark/Copyright. Technically, you'd have to re-draw every character. Plus significantly alter the design... NOT use "Transformers"... most likely NOT use any of the names, since Hasbro has re-asserted its TM/Copyright on most of them through re-use of most of the G1 names in recent releases.

I'm assuming THAT is the key issue behind Mirage's cessation of creating boxes.

Ethically, I am against ANY sort of reproduction that is not CLEARLY labeled as such. Be it box, insert, bubble, accessory, manual, whatever.

It's a shame that more people don't agree with me... and eventually, it's going to make our hobby a BIG mess.

Triple Post! Wheeeee!

Just going to mention that I am *finally* actually, really (and I mean it this time!) going to start thinning down my collection.

Feel free to PM me with what boxes (I only have G1 original) anyone's looking for, and I can take a peek to see what I've got.

Cheers for the reply.

I was gonna make some boxes for display purposes. If I made a box for someone else, I would put a clear indication somewhere that it was a dupe, not least to stop auction site con artists selling them as original.

Might just stick to my own collection for now lol.
