Help with Hound

Post by Wheeljack »

I have 2 g1 hounds and they have different markings/writing on the underneath. Is this normal? For those of you that have one, what are the markings/writing on yours. Thanks for you help.

Mine says Takara Co Ltd, Japan 1980-1982.
I don't know if its normal, Jose will know. Did you check if the second is a reissue? I think the reissues are stamped with "China".
Far over the Misty Mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old. The pines were roaring on the height, The winds were moaning in the night, The fire was red, it flaming spread, The trees like torches blazed with light.

well, one says the same as yours and the second one has a circle stamped in it and it says "takara Japan" and that is it. Other than that I don't see any other difference.

There are at least five variations of the G1 hound, which include 4 different tampos:
(borrowed from http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vquanda.html (Fred's Workshop, the first place to look for ANY question like this!)

Type 0: (Takara circle)small holes(Pre-Tf; unconfirmed existence for Tf)
Type 1: (Takara circle)Lg hole
Type 2: (Takara square)Lg hole
Type 3: (Hasbro/Takara)Medium hole
Type 4: (reissue)(Hasbro/Tak-china)Lg hole(in-process)

Banzai-Tron, thanks for the great link, it was extremely helpful and I am sure it will come in handy in the future as well.

Althoguh Banzai-Tron said it all, I can add that the "Takara Japan" is the earliest one. Then it comes with "Takara, kanji, Japan" and then "Takara Hasbro, etc".

Brawn, if it is the same as mine I believe it would be type 3.
