In general most KO I've gotten are pure crap. This is ESPECIALLY true for the combiners - devastator, defensor, superion. Half these things break as soon as they are out of the box.

On the other hand I did get 1 yellow scavenger that was very nice quality. Diecast metal parts and everything.

I was also impressed with the quality of an optimal optimus I got. But these are the rare exception.

But even as shoddy as most are there are some that I consider getting when they are almost free,

The cassettes, some of the shoes, that ultra magnus. But only when I see them for like $1.

One thing I don't consider are the ones that try to look identical to the originals. Of course they are usually sold like they're originals, even by those who admit they are fakes. So they usually aren't any cheaper.

I have a KO Superion and a KO Devestator. They both have improvements and problems compared to the originals.

I like them both a lot, but, if I were using them for anything other than display pieces, I would be highly upset with them, even though I got each set for less then $10.

It all depends on your intended purpose.

I think this is a personal matter.

My view on fakes: Like masterpieces of worldwide known artists, they provide you the choice of getting a replica to look at, because you are in a situation of not being able to afford the real thing. My greatest goal on all toys, would be getting an original Calder mobile, but I doubt I will ever have the money to get one. So the replica then, arises as more affordable and probably just as enjoyable.

Fakes are part of the hobby and you must know how to recognize them. Unfortunately, many times they also show up as a way to cash easy money for those who want to do bad things.

If you are especially thinking of those newer KOs from China, which look very close to the originals, they are quite expensive, and probably you can get an original for the same price, so, beware!

In my opinion, I don't like having anything non-original. I am aware of three fakes in my collection (one made by myself, which is very easy to recognize, two of the old ones, of great quality, plus I have one with a doubtful part which I reckon is fake). They surely fill a gap in your shelf, but they are not quite the same. It all depends on your way of collecting which is, going back to the start of my post, purely personal.

You might want to start saving a little money. Takara keeps reissuing g1 figures, if those are the ones you want.
