Bogus wantlist items, etc.

Post by trance »

So I've finally had to remove the wantlist section from the public domain due to abuse. People post they are willing to pay $30 for a single minicon, or $150 for a sealed Energon Arcee. Then I get emails from people in Australia wanting to sell me said minicon...shipping alone is gonna cost more than the minicon is worth.

In addition, we're constantly having issues with people randomly entering bogus size data for the database section.

Other wiki sites have a lot of success avoiding such obnoxious entries, does anyone know how, or have any suggestions? The only other solution I can think of is to hire mods for each of these sections!

Sorry to vent, but urgh!!! it's so irritating!

Perhaps have the entry(ies) be approved before being posted?

OK, that's a good suggestion...something I (or a volunteer) could check once every couple of days. This would require a APPROVED=TRUE,FALSE field to each entry so new entries can be easily plucked from the database table, and displayed to would-be approvers...

Other suggestions welcome!

If you do that, make sure you tell the submissiants? that any bogus entries will be discarded..

how about we make it a part of the collection checklist? that way, you have to create an account on the site to do stuff.
We could even have a common logon for all database-related stuff: measures, collection checklist, want list, etc.
