g1 prime mib questions

Post by audionmotionink »

i have been talking to a guy who lives where i am at that has a g1 prime mib. he has offered to sell it to me. i am wondering what i should be looking for to make sure i am not getting ripped off. he is asking 200.00 and says it has everything :box, styrofoam insert, roller, fists, fuel items, missiles etc.
i will be going to look at it either friday or saturday and more than likely picking it up same day if everything looks legit. i just want a headsup on what exactly to look for other than the smokestacks length.
1. did g1 prime only come with no rubsign and in 84, or was he released in 84 W/O rubsign AND released in 85 W/ rubsign?
2. should roller be grey or blue?
3. should fists/gun be bloated or regular?
4. the metal plated trailer was only an 84 w/o rubsign release correct?

any hel will be appreciated, also any comments on the asking price?= of 200.00 would be helpful as well in case i need to negotiate.

thanks,

jeremy

I would check on ebay first if I were you for completed prices before you buy. That would give you an idea of a current price for Prime. Also I would sugest you look at the condition of the Prime the guy Is asking and carefully decide.

There are so many versions of g1 Prime. There used to be a good website called"Fred's Complete Variants page... etc" Anyone know what happened to it? I know there's another one out there someplace to tell the diffrence between them all.

Fred's is gone for now, since GeoCities has closed. :(

Perhaps this could be of some help:

id say be careful

the signs of repros are -

1 ) the sun behind the figure is brighter than it should be

2 ) the box art on the back of the box cuts off ravages head

3 ) where it says ages 5 and up the : is just a ,

4 ) the trailer will have 2 indentations on the sticker near the autobot sign

Smokestacks: Earlier versions are "square cut", straight, later ones are rounded.

1. In 1984 came with no rubsign, but this can be removed - or substituted with a reproduction. All 1985 Primes should have the rubsign.
2. Early release have gray rollers; 1985 is purple, G2 is blue, and 2002 TRU reissue is silver painted.
3. 1984 are bloated; the thumbs are straight. 1985 and G2 are regular, the thumbs go down. Reissues have a ring coming off, from the gap to put the gun on.
4. Metal trailer was only available in 1984 and shouldn't be paired with a rubsign cab.

Stamps: There are many Prime fakes around, odds are that if it says "France", it's fake - the real French Prime exists, but it's rare. Hose should be detachable too.

I think $200 is a bit cheap for a real mint boxed Prime - unless the box is rough. Otherwise, it might be an expensive fake. The biggest suggestion I can give you is to make sure the seller is willing to offer you a full refund in case it's not really what you were looking for.

well i ended up being screwed on the prime (the guy sold it to someone else before i had a chance to meet up with him)

BUT.......

i scored a g1 soundwave boxed w/ techspecs and decoder and UNUSED sticker sheet,3 missiles (1 still attached to the sprue), perfect cardboard (box has wear but it is still nice overall)
cassettes that came with the purchase :
buzzsaw (no accessories)
ravage (no accessories)
frenzy (no accessories)
steeljaw (no accessories)
eject (no accessories)

i paid 100.00 for everything. which i thought was fair considering the guy wanted 150.00 the rear of the soundwave figure says takara 74, 83 and it has no rubsign.

wiill post pics of the purchase in the new purchases thread.

thanks for all the comments appreciate it for the help!
