Rattrap sits back in the captain's chair and ponders the situation. Nighteye contacts him on an internal comm-link to voice her displeasure with his actions.
Over Private Internal Comms: You brought her aboard unrestrained? What's wrong with you rat, you're going way too soft on the traitor.
What's she going to do? Fall apart on the floor? She really doesn't seem to be a threat.
Last time someone decided that, Iacon's control room was reduced to cinders. You can't make that judgment, and you certainly can't bring her into the city like this.
Cambreaker certainly won't be pleased with it, but no one else seems to care about her treachery. She does seem pretty pitifully remorseful.
You're going soft on her because she's a relative. As much as you have a duty to bring her to Cambreaker, you also have a duty to protect what's left of Iacon and the Autobots stationed there.
She certainly isn't the hero they told stories about, not by a long shot. Summon some guards. We'll do this right, but I'm getting tired of this slag. Side swapping and honor duels, I deserve a break from fighting, we leveled a city for pit's sake.
Nighteye's Gunship approaches the great Autobot city with its important cargo. The ship exchanges pass codes with Redline's security program before entering the airspace. The Gunship sets down in a courtyard near the old Iacon security hub. Four of the combined maintenance drones bar the exits from the bridge as Rattrap places a pair of stasis cuffs on Arcee's wrists. Rattrap mumbles something about necessary security precautions as he produces a weapons detector from his sleeve. He scans Arcee's body, removes her gun, and empties it of energon charge before tossing it to one of the guards. Rattrap adjusts the cuffs so Arcee can walk slowly.
The procession exits the ship with the guards at the front and back. Rattrap leads Arcee by the cuffs down the wide and empty streets of the mostly dead city. Rattrap notices a few of the Autobot stationed at Iacon watching the strange procession from the command center's observation area. They enter the building and make their way down into the deep maximum security level. Rattrap selects one of the few cells still in pristine condition and leads Arcee in. Rattrap removes the stasis cuffs and straps Arcee into the wall restraints. He places an speech disabler over her mouth before exiting the cell. A heavy steel lattice lowers from the ceiling to block entrance to the cell and an energy field goes up just in front of it.
Rattrap stations two of the guards next to the cell and sends the other two back to the ship. He knew cells like these well, it was where you put people you wanted to forget about. She would be down here until the boss-bot had decided she had served her penance. Rattrap sits down across from the cell, closes his optics, and tries to forget about his traitorous predecessor.

The gunship landed softly in an older courtyard near a security hub. Fortunately, this is closer to Cambreaker's noted last location than most of the other landing zones in Iacon. Blackjack watches a moment as Arcee is lead out of the ship and the stasis cuffs are placed on her wrists. She seems uncomfortable, but he gives her a look that reads "it is going to be alright" with as much confidence as he can muster. She is disarmed and led out of the ship by Rattrap and maintenance drones.
He turns to those remaining aboard the ship and explains his plans.
I'm goin' to speak with Cambreaka about this situation. Since it was me who found her out there, I'm takin' responsibility. I know that some of you have some things you'd like to say, but allow me to do this first. We can all meet an discuss it lata.
He looks at each of them and walks off the gunship, heading towards the military quarters around the Decagon. He knows that this single moment might damage his own friendship with Cambreaker forever, but somehow that is a chance he will have to take. The city is still dead, almost as a testament to the betrayal of Arcee and Rodimus Prime, he thinks. Again he wonders if ghosts of slain Transformers still wander these ruined streets, seeking some form of final peace.
The building he enters is not unfamiliar. Blackjack remembers visiting Cambreaker here during the early days of the war, when they had been both only drafted into the military from their daily lives. He had not accepted the task willingly, but he thought he understood the danger this new faction of rebels, calling themselves "Decepticons" could pose. He had not even begun to understand them, until that day.
The corridor leading to Cambreaker's location was dark, he had expected no less. At first the silence unnerved Blackjack, but then a faint sound, a sound he'd not heard in vorns, the simple sound of notes played in sequence to a constant pace, a tune, music. It made Blackjack stop for a moment, thinking about the day when he'd first met her. There had been music then too, but not this same song. This song was familiar. It started out as a slow, almost haunting melody as he walked further into the complex and it grew, become more up tempo.
Then he stood before the door, unsure of how to approach this. The comm to not disturb was still in his head. This was important, but how would Cambreaker react. He raised a hand and knocked, loud enough to be heard over the cascade of sound that filled the abandoned barracks.

Sideways walks into Iacon's command center and begins to survey the condition of the equipment it contains. He takes a look at the security mainframes and sighs.
This is going to be a pain.
Sideways opens a comm to all the Autobots ('cept Cam and Minerva.)
Rattrap, can you come up to the command center? I'm going to require assistance removing the old mainframes.

Cambreaker feels the music swirl around him.... and then the door pager goes of. His hands freeze, holding the last chord. Minerva stops, looking startled to Cambreaker. He turns the instrument off and sets his jaw, motioning for Minerva to come sit by him.
Come.
As Minerva sits, Blackjack enters, looking apologetic and somewhat grim. Cambreaker motions for him to take an old desk chair in the room.
I'm glad to see you back. What's going on?

And then the music stopped. The entire building again became a silent and empty shell of what it had once been. The door opened and Minerva and Cambreaker were just sitting there. There is a strange device in the room as well, something familiar to Blackjack, but he cannot remember exactly what it is. He takes Cambreaker's offer for a seat, knowing that this is going to be a long discussion. Then he starts, his friend seems glad to see him again. He wonders if the same will be true in a moment after he has said his peace.
Somethin' has occurred. I don't quite undastand how, but as I was runnin' through the wastelands of Cybatron, which was the result of some Decepticon psychological weapon, I ran into an old friend.
He tensed up, unsure if he should say her name or not. He decided Cambreaker needed to know all of the details.
It was Arcee, Cambreaka. I know that her and Rodimus's betrayal has had an effect on alla us 'bots, but this was a different Arcee. She's come back to us. I don't know how in Primus's name this happened. Rattrap took her, presumably to lock her up in the holdin' cells if you want to see her. She's badly hurt.
He stopped speaking, both eager to hear and dreading Cambreaker's reaction. He also kept an eye on Minerva. He'd wished he could tell this to his friend in private, but Minerva did have a right to know as well and maybe she was the only one who could help Arcee in her current condition.

Arcee believed it was an understatement to think herself humbled. No—rather, finding herself stasis-locked in a holding cell, unable to even speak, verged on humiliation. A part of her—the stubborn, prideful part—was angry, but then she knew she had no right to be—she had, afterall, brought this on herself. She deserved not only this, but so much more.
There was something about being stripped of her weaponry that made her feel degraded. It was a feeling she couldn’t shake. Funny how, only a short while earlier, she had found herself surprised that they had not treated her more as a prisoner. It seemed now she had her wish.
While Arcee had remained quiet during the ride to Iacon, she was further shocked into silence as Rattrap led her through the Autobot city and down toward the holding cells. The desolation, the ruin … it killed her to realize that she had played a part in all of it. Had it not been for her betrayal … Primus, it made her sick to her stomach.
She looked around the darkness of her bleak cell, and an acute sense of despair washed over her. Arcee hated feeling such self-pity, but this time, she couldn’t fight it. Her mind raced with a million thoughts, questions, emotions. As the hours passed, she was gaining more and more of her memories, and none of them were good. How could she possibly atone for her deeds? She thought of Rodimus Prime. He had deserted her. Was he even still alive, and if he was, did he remain Decepticon?
She hated herself for allowing him to effect her so. She didn’t want to think of him anymore. He didn’t matter now. What mattered was the others.
Would the Autobots ever fully trust her again? There was much that had occurred for them in the time she was gone, much that had changed, much for her to learn. Yet in all of her thought, she still did not know how she would go about facing Cambreaker. She wondered how long they would keep her there, and whether or not they would even grant her the privilege to speak … not that it would really make a difference. She had no justification for her actions.
The Gunship had provided some respite to her condition, but now Arcee’s body ached. The pain in her legs and shoulders had worsened without any treatment, and she wasn’t completely sure what was wrong under the surface. Redline had said nothing regarding her injuries; now that the adrenaline from earlier had worn off, perhaps she was in worse shape than she believed. They ought to leave me here to wither and die, she thought. I deserve it. I’m almost there, anyway…
As she continued to mull over the events which had led her here, Blackjack’s words again rang in Arcee’s head: Forgiveness is the Autobot way. That was what Optimus taught me.
Optimus … oh, if only he could see her now. She had brought shame to everything he stood for; everything he believed her to be. She had spit on it all.
And yet … she knew what was in her heart now. She was inherently GOOD. So much so, that regardless of what evil she had committed in the past, the Decepticon instinct was never able to fully take hold of her and trump that underlying goodness.
It was true—forgiveness was the Autobot way, but so was the idea of never giving up. No—she needed to fight. Fight for the reputation she had so thoroughly tarnished. Fight for the trust of the Autobots—she owed it to them, to Optimus. She owed it to Blackjack, who had so selflessly taken responsibility for her. But most importantly, she owed it to herself.
Arcee closed her eyes and listened to the quietness. She would find the inner strength she needed, she resolved. She would get through this, and stand tall once again.

Cambreaker's mood sours quickly as the conversation progresses. <Arcee?> he thinks to himself. <What the slag happened to her anyway?> Cambreaker shifts in his seat, feeling his irritability turn into discomfort and defensiveness. <I hope she's properly restrained...> He thinks, now having snippets and flashbacks of the betrayal. The two blasts knocking out Iacon's security and defenses all in one blow. Being assaulted on all sides by the leaders of the Decepticon cause, and the leaders of the Autobot cause. He focuses in on his own systems, the new body he'd built to ensure a victory in case of such events again. He realized he was thinking about chaining up a badly damaged fembot of light stature. This was clearly his own paranoia talking. Paranoia... he had nothing but that to rely on for the safety of their continuing existence. All this flashed through his head while only one thing comes out of his vocoder.
What.
Cambreaka, I'm sorry, but you know I...
Hmph. She'll be fine. There's nothing left for her to destroy here on the ground. Is she stable?
Blackjack shrugs. Cambreaker takes Minerva's hand, softening a bit.
Come with me. I want her to be able to talk. And I want some backup.
Cambreaker's memory briefly flashes back to Minerva and Kup working on the small percentage of his frame that was salvagable from his old body. It had been badly damaged. Kup was called in to help turn the screw on a spreader clamp, they had to move one of the giant frame rails in his back that had melted from the blaster placed over it, and sagged several degrees toward the next rail before resolidifying. He had awoken from repair stasis when his sensors picked up changes in his frame structure. He managed to put himself back to stasis after he listened to that frame beam creak and squeal as Kup and Minerva twisted the clamp around.
"This reminds me of when Optimus Prime..." Kup had trailed off, thinking better of it.
Let's go find out what's going on. Blackjack, unless you have reason to protest, I'll be sending you with most of the others to further missions while the Decepticons are down, because I know they're not out yet.
Cambreaker stands, and looks to Minerva, a grim expression on his face, trying to read how she feels about the matter.

Just as Minerva sits down beside Cambreaker, Blackjack enters. She notices the moment of confusion on his face, probably both from hearing music in a place like this and then finding her and Cambreaker here. She finds the situation slightly embarrassing, but tries not to let it show. All such thoughts are however lost as Blackjack gives them the news.
As Arcee’s name is mentioned, Minerva feels like her fuel pump stops for a moment. She looks at Blackjack in disbelief, trying to process what he’d just said. ...a badly hurt Arcee in the cells...
She knew very well what Arcee and Rodimus had done, not only to Cambreaker, but to all of them and dreams of how close it had been that she’d … they’d lost Cambreaker still haunted her. She’d been trying to suppress the still fresh memories and shut out the thoughts of Arcee, Rodimus and their recent betrayal, but now they were back, just as strong as they’d been at first. She hadn’t seen or heard anything of the deserter-duo since they’d all left the planet and the total lack of reports even since they’d returned, had lead her to believe that Megatron might have had them permanently removed, since he’d gotten what he wanted; Cybertron. Glancing to her side she sees that Cambreaker has tensed up and does clearly not like what he’s hearing.
She feels him take her hand and she squeezes it gently in return, feeling herself relax slightly.
Minerva looks to Blackjack once more, who’s still standing before them, and can’t for the life of her understand how he seemed to have forgiven Arcee just like that.

Cambreaker gets up, ready to go, and turns to her. Minerva meets his optics, her face blank, but eyes filled with anger and sadness. She too gets up and then turns to Blackjack, not convinced of Arcee’s conversion.
How do you know that this is not another one of their tricks?

The moment passes as if in a dream. He listens intently to what Cambreaker says, hanging on each word of the conversation, prepared to interject at any moment, to come to her defense. Cambreaker's words are full of contempt, but not the anger he had expected. He seems almost nostalgic, as if this news has awoken some memory in him. Blackjack is surprised once more by his old friend. He seems to have become more than the Cambreaker he had known from those days before the war and it wasn't just the general hardening of character that comes with fighting or the strain of being responsible for other's lives. Cambreaker had changed in a way that Blackjack did not fully understand. He was grateful.
He nodded when he was told he'd be sent on further missions, that suited him fine. He actually had something in mind and was about to say something to Cambreaker when Minerva spoke. He hadn't been paying attention to her expression at all while he explained about Arcee, but from what she said he regretted that he hadn't thought about her feelings on this matter.
How do you know that this is not another one of their tricks?
He is almost angry, shifting immediately to defensive mode. Then he catches himself, instead of anger his voice becomes soft as if to convey regret, Because of all the Autobots we've got with us (then he remember Dinobot's words), save for maybe one, I undastand the way 'cons think betta than any of em. All those years of undacova work in that blasted space mafia. Arcee isn't Decepticon anymore and I'd stake my own life on it. He looks Minerva in the optics as he speaks, making sure his point is understood.
He hesitates a moment, walking towards the door as they prepare to leave. Then he speaks again.
If you don't mind Cammy, I'd like to go on a mission of my own design. I've caused everyone a lot of problems and you've got things to sort out here, so allow me to go an see what the 'cons is up to. I'll do a little recon and then report back to ya.

Sideways stops and transforms. His mind goes back to a place he does not ever want to remember. He has made up his mind, this must end now. Unicron must never be allowed to surface. With Galvatron's selfish use of the Dark Matrix, a small fraction of Unicron's essence was released upon Cybertron. Those who can feel his power feel it now. A strange feeling comes over Sideways as he abandons his primary directives, his subconscious being nudged by a force he has no control over. As Sideways transforms back to vehicle mode, it slowly starts to change shape and form, glowing with an essence not familiar to most.

Dinobot at his station inside Iacon realizes the Crusaders haven't reported in yet. Racetrack...Ractrack, this is Dinobot. I dont see any of the Crusaders here. What is your location? You are all needed here at Iacon. Dinobot records the message, and sets it on repeat, and sets an alert to notify him of replies. He then gets on a comm with Rattrap. Vermin, this is Dinobot, when you get a chance, join me at my station.

The two comms snapped Rattrap out of his deep train of thought. He blinked and looked around, he was still in the cell block guarding Arcee. He tried to comm Sideways and got no response. Rattrap frowned and commed Dinobot.
Over Comms: I'm on my way up, not like the traitor is going anywhere.
Rattrap shuddered, he hated being down in the cells, they brought back too many memories. It was nearly impossible to mark the passage of time in the cell block and he wondered if Cambreaker was taking an abnormally long time in arriving or if this place was messing with his head.
On his way out of the security building, Rattrap stops by the armory and grabs a standard issue rifle. It wasn't nearly as nice as his old gun, but it was much better than no gun. He would have to work on a replacement gun later. Rattrap makes his way through the empty streets to where Dinobot was stationed.
What's going on, Chopperface?

Rattrap walks up to Dinobot looking a little frustrated. Hey Rat. What do you think of all thats transpired recently? With Arcee coming back, and Iacon left almost completely unguarded by the cons, it seems like something big is on the horizon. Im also sorry that I almost blasted Arcee to pieces. She did after all damage me pretty badly last time we saw her. Rattrap looks at Dinobot puzzled. He's never seen him in deep thought like this before. Whenever my shift is up, do you want to go look for the Crusaders? They haven't reported back in yet, and I dont want them captured or worse.

Blackjack, I respect you, I just wonder if you're right this time. You can go on your mission. Do not engage, just get a good look in and come back. Hopefully the defeat at Kaon has sent them into a crisis.
Cam turns with Minerva to leave the other way, but then glances over his shoulder to Blackjack.
Part of me still hopes you're right.
Dinobot, Rattrap. It's time to get back in action. I want you to take Nighteye and the Crusaders to Tagon heights, and select an appropriate industrial block to secure and fortify. I know it's a non-combat mission, but we have to get this kind of work done while the Decepticons are busy. Bring Redline, I'm sure she'll have some ideas how to utilize the existing equipment defensively. Leave the Dinobots here, I want them to continue cleanup and defense of Iacon.
Are you ready to go have a look, Minerva?

I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It is hard to not slag a bot after they've shot you and if I remember right, they shot you up pretty bad. Unfortunately its not up to us, and Cambreaker seems to be in no hurry to take care of the traitor. I've got no idea what could be coming that's bigger than the battle for Cybertron, but if you're right we need to be ready.
Cambreakers comm comes in over the station's loud speakers. Rattrap raises an eyebrow at Dinobot.
I guess we'll be looking for the Crusaders sooner than we thought. The heights, huh? Its about time I went back there.
The two 'bots leave Dinobot's station and make their way to Nighteye to begin the search.

He smiles for the first time as Cambreaker speaks his last line. Although he is glad that his old friend, as well as many of the Autobots, seem willing to accept Arcee back into their ranks he knows that things won't be certain with her until they understand why she changed sides to begin with. And if Cambreaker knew the extent of his 'recon' mission he knows that his old friend would be much more hesitant to let him go. Blackjack waits for them to leave, then walks out of the building the way that he entered, opposite from Cambreaker and Minerva.
He steps out into the Cybertronian night and glances around one more time at the dead city of Iacon. Arcee's betrayal had also affected him deeply, but somehow he had held onto forgiveness he didn't know how. It seemed that all other forgiveness was dead in him. The 'cons had killed it a long time ago. And as he transformed and prepared to leave he knew that his greatest challenge was ahead. He would find Megatron himself and ask what he had done to Arcee. Blackjack sped away from the dead city, thinking first to check Kaon the last known whereabouts of the 'cons.

Wishing him good luck, Minerva and Cambreaker exit the room, leaving Blackjack to his mission. Minerva can’t seem to get her mind off of Blackjacks answer to her question. He’d seemed very upset at first, as she had indirectly told him that she didn’t trust Arcee. And then…
His words were still ringing in her head;
“Arcee isn't Decepticon anymore and I'd stake my own life on it”.
He’d seemed so convinced! She didn’t see any sign of even the slightest doubt in him, and that made her doubt her own opinion. She trusted Blackjack and was aware of that he knew much more about the Decepticon way of thinking than she did.
Perhaps Arcee was back to her old self after all…? She wonders what Cambreaker thought about this.
Minerva notices that she’s been lagging behind and has to run to catch up with Cambreaker.
Sorry… she says, and looks at him apologetically. I just can’t believe that Arcee’s back…

Cambreaker just puts an arm around Minerva and holds her near while they walk the rest of the way to the cells. Seeing her condition, Cambreaker has the guards let him right in the cell with Arcee. He removes the gag from her vocoder. Minerva sees some of Arcee's worst wounds and looks concerned to Cambreaker. He nods, allowing her to treat them. He waits til she's a bit more stable, looking over her sternly the whole time.
So. Arcee. What brings you back here.
Minerva flinches, not expecting so stern a tone.
