I've got the old Matchbox Voltron in a recent purchase, I'll be upping it on the store shortly. It's the 3-box set, not the giftset. Does anyone remember if the Matchbox giftset came with weapons (blazing sword or anything else), or was that only the go-lion version? The 3-box set styrofoams only have holes for the figures, nothing weapon-wise...

ok as I had said befor these all must go I just cant maintain the collection anymore I simply move to much here are some better all iclusive photo's of what I am looking to get rid of if I cant seem to unload everything as a set I will start to price things seperate. as for a price for the whole set I am looking for offers I have a good idear of what it should go for in my head but I dont normaly deal in this stuff I used this site to price things and went with 40 to 50% below what the store is selling and I have a number but I am looking for an offer.

I do have the originals (for now) but I just want the MP set for a show case piece, The top of my desk has five sealed MP TF's and I want a sealed Voltron in the mix, he is one of my favorites.Roar wrote:The Masterpiece Voltron is very nice and extremely well articulated but you can buy the real Popy GB-36 lions for as much as the MPV costs or less if you really shop around and are careful about the lions you are getting. If you want the boxes and stryro inserts it just costs a tiny fraction more.
But I'm just in love with the old school Voltron.
The MP Voltron is a really choice toy too and I love the packaging that looks like a book! I can't wait until they come out with the Dairugger vehicle team Voltron in both Masterpiece and DVD!

hi all, I've got a couple of things im trying to sell, I know most of you are in the US so payment will have to be by paypal i guess unless you're in the uk and i could accept bank transfer or cheque. If anyone is interested ill get them boxed up and take them down to the post office to see hoq much postage will be, im not sure how much it is from the uk.
anyways i have:
this takara soundwave resissue:

and this japanese masterpiece convoy:

not sure if i have to state a price or can accept offers but they seem to be valued by people here at around $100-120 for the Soundwave and $200-250 for convoy.

Neither the The Popy Voltron III lion set or the Bandai second wave came with weapons. After complaining from fans there was eventually a carded set of Blazing Sword and shield that you could buy seperately made by Matchbox. It was a long package comprised of a cardboard backer with a heat sealed blastic blister/bubble and interior support system. One MOC sold at the other place a while back for $200.00.trance wrote:I've got the old Matchbox Voltron in a recent purchase, I'll be upping it on the store shortly. Authentic Popy lions do not have any sort of stamping on them on the bottoms of their jaws.
A lot of people buy the Panosh Place lion accessories because the PP lions actually came with the little lances and daggers that the lions are shown carrying in their mouths in the cartoon series.
The LJN "Master Motorized" set also came with a blazing sword. The lions had wheels on them as well as pull back motors in them.
I digress....anyhoo.....
The Popy sets came with the lions on the box, one set of black and white instructions and the styrofoam insert.
There are two different box designs for the Voltron lions.
Rainbow Voltron:
The "Rainbow Voltron" sets (I call them that) have the Voltron logo in rainbow colors, the box front was taped but you could open it like a book and see the interior. The opened flap has the artwork form the front of the box inside, and the "meat" of the box that holds the toys has a partitioned cellophane window so that you can see the lions.
The lions that came in the three boxes were divided as follows:
Yellow with Green
Black alone
Blue with Red
The box tops and bottoms were not sealed with tape but with a melted glue.
The "Deluxe Giftset" lions were packaged like the three above seperate boxes with the windows but all together with one large styrofoam insert. Black lion on top, Green and Red in the middle, and Blue and Yellow on the bottom.
All of the "Rainbow Logo" lion sets are the most rare of the lion series and desired out of all the Voltron sets for not only the beautiful artwork which was solely painted (no live pictures except on sides and back), but also because a large number of them were recalled for lead content in the paint. There weren't enough Voltron lions to go around before the recall, but after they were commanding a premium price, so Matchbox was in a tizzy to get the new second wave out and re-coup some of their money from the recall because they took a bath on it!
The knockoffs were also recalled for unsafe amounts of lead in the paint. I have a set of them and they are good knockoffs too! For years I thought I had a real set!
Yellow Logo Voltron:
The Yellow logo Voltron sets were made both by Popy and Bandai (Bandai secured rights to make the Vehicle Voltron exclusively: plastic junk) and Bandai were also authorized for the production of the second release of the die cast lions. The quality of these lions are not as good as the Popy ones. They're still good, but there's just not as much attention paid to paint application.
Yellow logo boxes do not have the openable fronts that have cellophane windows so you couldn't look at the product until you bought it. The front of the Voltron III "Deluxe Giftset Box" has a painted rendition of Voltron with the yellow logo on it along with a "live" picture of the lions together as Voltron and seperately.
On the back of the yellow logo Voltron III giftset box there is a full picture of the Voltron line: Full sized lion, vehicle and gladiator sets, as well as the miniatures of these sets. They didn't come apart but were made of both die cast and plastic like their giant sized counterparts but with much less detail. The box is sealed both bottom and top with glue.
The single one the two lion boxes are the same as the yellow logo Voltron III boxes except only the lions that are in the box are featured with a painting and "live" picture of the two lions together. (No front opening flaps) The back also has a picture of the entire Voltron line.
I hope that helps a little and you don't think I am trying to be a know it all.
I wish I could tell you about the Black, Blue and Red Gladiator sets, but I am on a learning curve with those. Its the rarest of all the sets, but the beauty of those is that the show was a flop, and wasn't even profitable for the knockoff artists to make so most of the time I've been told...so if you find a Gladiator its real.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold, To dungeons deep and caverns old. The pines were roaring on the height, The winds were moaning in the night, The fire was red, it flaming spread, The trees like torches blazed with light.
