How much should u pay for..

I wanted to leave this thread open for newbies like me that have just recently started collecting Transformer toys, again! Especially with so many KO's and rip-off artists out there(which I'm glad we have Matt,

), I was wondering if the elite collectors or at least buyers that have experienced the woes of completing your collection could give us some incite on how much I should be paying for said item!

So my first question is, how much should I pay for an Ehobby Anime Astrotrain? I've seen him go well over $300! I've come across someone selling it for $200, MISB, so I was wondering if that is a good deal or should I keep looking for something cheaper? Thanks, in advance!

BTW it's funny that in the old toy catalogs, he was colored all grey and purple, just like the anime, but the toy was not colored this way,

The eHobby Astrotrain is right there for an average of USD280, sometimes it reaches 300 as you said, sometimes less. However, if you are a beginner as you said, I wouldn't recommend you to start with the pricy stuff. Buy quality, but something more "normal" to get familiarized with pricing, quality and especially grading.

Regarding the pre-production Astrotrain, you will notice in the catalog that it's still different from the reissue, just check the feet. The reason why was it changed that much it's unknown to me - same as they did with Bluestreak!

Finally, if you want to have fun, take a look at the 1985 catalog and see how many prototypes you find. So, as a tip in advance, do not use them for reference, or you will end in a cul-de-sac.

I guess I'm not that much of a newbie, but I thought that was a good price for an Ehobby Astrotrain! I've mostly been stocking up on the Reissue collection, because of the beautiful display Dreamwave's art provides for the covers! Since I have the Reissue Blaster and the TRU Commerative Soundwave, I've been tryin' 2 complete my Communication set! Once completed, I'll be going for the Reissues again!

That leads me to my next question: How much should I pay for the Minibots Team Reissue? I'm looking to purchase that soon, as well!

BTW, I have to look at that catalog now, because there were a lot of prototype versions, now that I think about it! *transforms into starfighter mode and flies over to AJ's to look at catalogs*

I haven't checked the prices on that pack (assuming you talk about the Dreamwave-boxed set, not the eHobby recolored box) in a while, but before the movie they were going for USD100. It's pretty expensive if you ask me, if you are content with just a good sample of each character, go for the vintage originals, they have a "feel" of better quality. However, if you want to go hard core, you have to get that set and the originals... Apart from the retooled Bumblebee face, they feature all different copyright stamps, which makes them variations which you won't be able to get elsewhere.

Yeah, I've noticed them goin' for $100+! I definitely want the set, especially for the retooled Bumblebee face! I'll keep my eyes peeled, but like the advice u gave me earlier, I'm goin' for the more reasonable priced items! I believe Matt's selection is safe and I've heard such great things from everyone here on these boards! I'm gonna stick with my old favorites, for now!

How about the Hasbro Commerative Reissue Skywarp? What's a good price for him? I've seen him start at $44!

USD44 sounds like a good deal to me, but that considering I live quite far from the States... Here the jet reissues sell for an average of USD60, which is the same you can pay to get a mint loose vintage seeker. However, again, if you want to have those long missiles, you have to get the Hasbro reissue

How about a MP-02. Ultra magnus Master piece. The one on ebay was $229.99, plus $65 for shipping, from HK. The guy did not say if it was MISB just new condition. Adding...$294.99. Wow!

Anyway the one I may get has been opened and displayed. Is $150.00 too much?

Hmm. As far as I can tell the ONLY appearance of Um in that form in in the dreamwave G1 series. He's a nice piece though.

The second part was an opened, dislpayed, and returned to box, complete for $150. That was really the question.

I'd pay that for one computron. (If I wanted one that is...).

Depends on the plastics color though. (yellowing). But if he's MIB then thats a good price. [I.E. much cheaper than the scalpers.].

BTW: anyone have Mp06 -skywarp? What is he like?
