Who should be the core characters in the new TF the Movie?

Post by megaprime »

Don Murphy, the producer of the new Transformers the Movie, currently is asking Transformers fans for advice on the question: which Transformer character should be featured in the movie, since there would have to be a core team of Autobots and Decepticons.
He even gave an example saying the X-MEN films featured Wolverine first, then Professor X and Magneto, and then Cyclops and some other characters.
Without a doubt, There are supposed to be more characters for Transformers, simply because there are more Transformers than X-Men based on the original stories. However, a good movie demands a core team of important or major characters, and major characters cannot be too many, otherwise there wouldn't be any major character.
Any way, let's try 10 characters, 5 for Autobots, and 5 for Decepticons, even though Don Murphy generally gave a range from 6 to 8.
Please share your opinion with us on who should be the major character in the new movie, and please try not to go beyond 10, which would be too much for "core characters". We all know there are so many awesome Transformers, but let's make 10 as the maximum number of the core characters, and it's absolutely fine to make it less than 10.
Based on considerations regarding all the Transformers' capabilities, personalities, and the original stories, here is my list:
Autobots:
Optimus Prime
Bumblebee
Grimlock
Jazz
Ultra Magnus
Decepticons:
Megatron
Starscream
Soundwave
Devastator
Shockwave
G1 Transformers,
the incredible creatures,
nothing else can be better,
WE LOVE THEM FOR EVER.

Keeping out all gestalts, TFTM guys, and Dinobots:
Autobots:
Optimus Prime (Leader)
Prowl (Second in Command)
Jazz (Like TMNT Michaelangelo, funny, light hearted guy)
Bumblebee (Earth liason. The kids are gonna eat 'em up)
Jetfire (The strong guy who suffers from insecurity. Like UM)

Keeping out all gestalts, TFTM guys, and Insecticons
Decepticons:
Megatron (Leader)
Skywarp, Thundercracker, and Starscream (Lieutenants)
Soundwave (Communications: Transforms into a satellite, maybe?)
So, in Transformers, Les Claypool is God?

Why Prowl is the second in command. In the tech spec it says Jazz is Optimus Prime's right hand man. In the original story, Ironhide actually plays the role of a second commander for Autobots. Prowl is an outstanding soldier, brave, intelligent, and responsible. However, I never heard Prowl is the second in command.

Well, I'm saying that given the cast of characters I picked, Prowl would play the role of second in command. Historically, he's been a tactician because of his advanced logical circutry. And usually when Optimus dies, he gets passed over for the Grimlocks and Ultra Magnuses of the world.

actually, in some of the illustrated storybooks, including the book and tape ones, prowl is second in command. i thought jazz was just spec ops commander, like shockwave.

Here's a useless reply. Whatever 10 are picked... I bet you I know two of them!

Optimus Prime
Megatron

Aaaah yes Prime and Megs will be there but what form will Megatron take?
Are they gonna make him a Walther P-38?
I doubt it. Since they can't sell a toy that looks like that.

If Ravage and Rumble are in the movie are they going to be cassette tapes or CD's. How would they make a toy tranformer CD. CD's are too flat.

Aaah no matter what they will be I cannot wait for the movie to come out!!
I've been wanting them to make this movie ever since computer graphic animation came out. It's been too long.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure Megsy won't be a gun becaue A, they can't make a toy that's a gun and B, according to Don Murphy, they're trying to avoid the "shrinking" transformations, like guns, boomboxes, tapes, etc.

He's gonna be some really ghetto car hooked up with hrydrolics and glaring red underlights and spinning rims with spikes. That'd just rule.

1985 annual has the full command chart in the back of it.....errr, don't have the book right here, think it's in the loft - will grab it later and scan it for everybody.
