Born March 4th, 8 lbs 7 oz.
Needless to say, I probably won't be around quite as much to quibble over details or provide price trends for a little bit. Though he IS sleeping a lot, so I might *finally* find the time to thin out my collection.
Thanks everyone! Yes, he's our first... everything seems to be going mostly fine. We're only stressing a little bit (well, okay, a LOT), because he's having a little bit of a weight issue, but we think it's mostly just a combination of bad advice from the nurses at the hospital on breast feeding and overreaction from the same nurses/doctors.
He weighed 8 lb 7 oz at birth... they didn't bother to tell us his discharge weight... on his 3rd day checkup he was down to 7 lb 8 oz. That's right about 10%, which just falls within normal as far as I can tell. Not sure why they're freaking out.
Especially considering he was slow to begin feeding given that Momma had to have two rounds of Nubain (narcotic) AND an epidural to get through the 23 hours of labor. And then the bloody nurses compounded the problem by giving rubbish advice like "supplement with bottle formula" on day two and "here, use this nipple shield". Unfortunately, we were too tired, and didn't have our research handy because he decided to come a little bit early, so we tried their rubbish advice, and slowed down the natural learning process. I knew I should've moved to Canada.
congradulations on your first born, don't worry about the weight it is a good weight and its not unusural to see a baby loose a whole pound upon leaving the hospital. I do feel for your wife with the long labor she had, I have three boys myself but my labours was no longer than 3 hours. My first born was only 20 minutes but I had my labor in my back so it hurt pretty rough.
I hope you enjoy your time watching him grow up, its amazing how fast kids grow, enjoy every minute of it.
