I'm glad I'm not looking for boxed versions to fill my collection. I don't envy you trying to find and pay for them.

How useful are Ebay's protection services if you buy something like that and it turns out to be fake? How likely are you to get your money back?

Is it just me or is it petty that they want shipping on top of the cost, and even then they are not insuring it?

I pay through Paypal so I can get my money back if the seller decides to pull a fast one. I have no faith in eBay's protection services. As for the item possibly turning out to be fake. I don't think there are any fake graded Silverbolts floating around out there.
