Question about G1 Transformers.....its been a while for me

Post by curch »

I just recently purchased a large toy collection. It has some G1 Transformers in it. Was the date stamp on the bottom always "Takara"? I don't remember from when I was a kid. Any help would be great.

Most times, yes. But note that not every Takara toy is a Transformer, and there are some early issues which don't have any stamps on.

Thanks Jose. My Gears had nothing stamped on it at all.

Would like to see pictures of it up close, if possible, please.

Sure. The left side wheels have started to rustn  And it needs a quick wiping off, but all in all not bad. Let me know if you need any closer.

Thanks. I asked because I have 2 Gears with different stamps, and none of them is a blank (which I am not aware it exists). However, the second picture looks like yours isn't a blank either. Check the front wheel well.

They place those stamps in interesting places! My gears looks the same as yours. What was the date stamp for him?

The date stamp says 1974-1983. Here is hopefully a better pic of it.

Thanks! I had many G1 Transformers when I was a kid. My mom gave them all away to my younger cousin when I was about 13. I wonder if he still has them :) Anyway, I now sell 80's toys just for fun and got a few Transformers in someones collection. Nothing big though.

That sounds similar to my story. I had given all of mine away when I was around 11 or so to a friend of mine that lived next door. He eventually looked me up on Facebook over 20 years later...highly doubtful he still has them, though. Anyways...welcome aboard and look forward to seeing you around.

Yup! Mine is the same stamp and all. I read in my handy G1 Transformer book:

"For some reason Gears was never available as a TF in Japan."

Hope that helps. And welcome to TFL, curch!

 You are right. I looked under better light - mine is '74 to '83. I believe curch's Gears is too... from the photo anyway.
