G1 Shockwave Range Finder Panel

Post by Deadend66 »

Good morning and happy Saturday! I've been having a great time this past year cleaning up and adding a few missing parts to my childhood collection of G1 Transformers. One such part I picked up last week on Ebay is the Range Finder (sight) for Shockwave.
For the life of me however, I can't find a single reference to how to properly replace it on the unit.
Looking closely at the top panel where the Range Finder should sit, one can see it is made to be lifted for that piece to fit in. I want to do this right though, and don't want to force and risk a break.
Does anyone have experience doing this? Appreciate any tips - thanks!!

Great question, and exactly what I was hoping to find. Take a look at the photos, there's one false-plastic screw (were the engineers just trying to have fun with us or what?) that definitely seems to be bound to the unit underneath. Now, on one of the pics (...074640.jpg) you can barely make out one of the two sections that do appear to be created to move this cover panel independently, and clip into place under the two housings on the main unit above the speaker. I have poked, prodded and pulled to the extent I feel comfortable. At this point I'm holding out for a cheap busted unit to safely do some more aggressive tests with.
If I get a good process down, I'll post it here for folks.
Have a great weekend!

That looks like it'd be attached with a screw from the inside, and the threads and tip go inside the faux screw you're seeing on the outside.
